How many times does a person have to drop your thread before you decide not to tag them again?

depends on how far the thread got? personally im lenient in that i'll be happy with a thread that's built up enough length for at least a decent little convo, since i rarely expect my threads to reach solid narrative completion--they usually just kind of peter out after a topic's exhausted

but, for threads dropped too early to actually get off the ground at all: if i'm the one that tagged into them, i might give it one more tag-in try after the first fizzle and then give it up if the second attempt dies early too. if they tag me first, multiple times, i'd be more apt to back maybe three or even four times before i start getting a bit weirded out. since if they're repeatedly hitting me up, it probably means they must be pretty interested in my character...? but i might still message them about our playstyles being incompatible if they just keep dropping only like three comments in over and over.

i've met a couple players that actively refuse to backtag more than a day max and drop stuff like hot potatoes left and right beyond that, which is more power to them if they're at least upfront about it, but i just can't get much fun out of that kind of pace myself

a friend: depends, if they're a flake i'll eventually give up/just give them low effort tags, if they go through slow periods or whatever then it's not a big deal

a stranger who apologizes or tags me in return eventually: clean slate

if it's a low stakes whatever meme (like texting), i don't take it personally and have no problem tagging them again if the opportunity arises.

but if it requires actual thought and effort (like the rng or pic prompt), it depends on how long the thread went on for. if it went on for a while, then i'll tag them again. sometimes a thread reaches its natural conclusion without needing an actual conclusion.

but if it never got off the ground as they never replied to my initial tag, i won't tag them again. if it's a friend, i'll give them one more shot but it annoys me when someone tells me to tag them on this meme, and they never reply. i understand being too busy or too lethargic to write so i'm p relaxed when it comes to backtagging. but if it's a repeated thing and nothing ever happens, even an apology isn't enough for me.

these are all good replies you got but one thing you might also want to factor into your decision: this has been a HARD week on a lot of people. not just in this hobby, but in general. we all know why.

obviously this doesn't apply to non-current outstanding threads but if someone's leaving you hanging this week in particular i'd be inclined to give them a little more leeway.
