This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. i'm kind of +.5 on this but it depends

if the actor is super recognizable it's distracting for me, which detracts from the rp in the same way that, say, really terrible self-drawn icons would be distracting

but if there's a lot of hair/makeup/chameleoning going on it doesn't happen, like i'd have no problem playing off a moiraine damodred because the Fantasy Filter is so heavy, and if a character's played by an actor who isn't ubiquitous it also isn't an issue

off the top of my head the MCU is the worst for this (for me) because of their general casting/costuming practices, but the MCU is also the worst for writing, so it's kind of an "oh no, anyway"

i'm just confused why you're conflating pretentiousness with your inability to separate filmed adaptations of media from the people performing it, even the actors themselves have an ic/ooc divide

here's a list of petty reasons people might not want to rp with you:
- they think your icons are ugly
- you don't have info in your journal
- your journal layout is basic
- you have some kind of autoplay music and it annoyed them that much
- they hate the games you're in
- they hate your canon
- they think your taste in canons in general is bad
- they saw you on plurk once and thought you were annoying
- they've seen you flake on threads and decided fuck that
- they think you make grammatical errors or otherwise don't write well
- they don't like your ships
- they think your username is dumb
- they don't think your character is hot

and many more! none of this matters in literally any way unless you're out here thinking "i wonder if there are people who don't rp with me for petty reasons" and letting it bother you
