mondays are generally the day of the week that the people I'm writing with are busiest with other stuff, and I still got 86 tags yesterday, across a handful of characters, a couple that haven't had new canon material in years. ymmv on how active that counts as to you or if you get that - I tag out a lot, because in my experience, people are more likely to tag top levels of a character they see tag out often

meme saturation's pretty high, if you look at the timestamps, so the comment counts always look low on the first couple days for memes that aren't the big textspam ones. but if you check back a week later on some memes like random scenario and such, the counts get higher. the tags are slower but the threads truck along

there's still plenty of meme rp to go around if you're proactive and tag out, tbh. personslly it's the only kind of rp i do these days and i always have threads ongoing. that said, dwrp's overall public speed *has* slowed down in the last few years, though there's still circles that tag pretty fast if you can find them. it'll just take more trial and error to find them in memes specifically, since memes tend to be low-priority rp

setting aside the usual niche shipping duds on the front page right for now, there are still plenty of active staples like the rain meme, insomnia, etc. and of course, tfln and texting memes.

you can easily find rp on bakerstreet by being proactive, but it isn't likely to fall into your lap unless you're playing the new hotness OR you've been tagging out and maintaining threads consistently enough for regular users to notice.

came back to DWRP after a 5+ year break a few months ago, felt the same way looking at bakerstreet for the first time, am doing very well for myself now after putting some work in to tag out, be visible, all the other things anons above have mentioned

Nah. I'm still tagging things from memes that are a month old, some that are two months. I tag out and put info in my top levels to bait some tag ins, and that tends to net me some good stuff. (Yes, I also play some popular characters, but I've gotten some good, steady stuff for my more non-popular ones.) Some people drop my things (and we just start stuff again, nbd), and some keep tagging until the thread ends. Echoing other nonnies who say that it's trial/error. (I also look and see if I see specific players tag and have long threads, and if I like the character, I'll seek them out.)

I feel there's a bit of an unwillingness to tag out, so that's why many memes are a sea of empty top levels and give the impression it's dead. I feel there are a lot of similar memes being posted and posted frequently, which probably doesn't help.

I also check the second page when looking at memes and tag in even if the top level is a week old. #yolo, you know?

Does anyone else get sad that you always have to be the initiator. I know that someone has to do it but I'd give anything for someone to come up to me and say 'oh lets do this!'
People always say they love tagging with me, and I am really thankful for that, but right now my brain is just so toast that I'd love someone to come to me with a fun idea for once instead of it always being me that comes up with stuff.

I am just being selfish and bitching but still... Reach out to your RP partners sometimes if they're usually the one that has all the suggestions. They might appreciate it when their brains are mashed potatoes.

when you say you're happy with backtags, anons, what's the general timeframe that you imagine?

i tend to feel bad if my tags take hours each, especially if i'm boomeranging other threads in the meantime, but i rarely take more than a day to respond. i'm trying to convince myself that this is totally fine and my partners won't hate me if our threads only get a few comments of progress a day :(

does anyone know what happened for plurk to have a sudden migration?

let me explain what i mean: plurk used to be used by three groups of people. in certain asian countries is a popular social media platform. then there was us dwrpers, and a modding community from some game i can't remember the name now (real life?)

but now when i check the top plurks page out of curiosity i notice lots of (english speaking) people who are using it as twitter (don't have locked accounts and comment on randoms plurks they have around, they also looooove anon). so i can't help wondering where they suddenly came from. i saw one plurk saying they heard about the site from "Q" but i dunno what that is, unless it was shitnaming X

elon musk is changing twitter so that anything you post to it will be used for ai training (there used to be a way to opt out of this). he's also changing how blocks function so that blocking a user doesn't stop them from being able to view your tweets

this is causing a mass exodus, most notably of artists who are against ai art. most of them are going to bluesky, though. i didn't know there were some picking plurk instead

Man, it's been like a decade now since I was involved in DWRP and I gotta admit that while yes I was kind of surprised/disappointed this and wankgate still exist, I'm actually even more surprised that plurk still exists and is being used.

Just checked my old profile and it's been nine years since I logged in. Is the site popular in some language other than English or something? I don't remember anyone aside from LJ/DW RPers using it back in the day and haven't heard of it since... it just seems so obscure that I would have thought it would have been shut down by now for some reason or another, IDK.

plurk has always been like majority taiwanese users or smth iirc, dwrp accounts are a pretty small slice in the userbase

also recently there have been more exoduses to plurk from other smaller social media sites i think, so yeah it's def still alive and well
