Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.
Do not solicit money, Dreamwidth points, or other currency unless you are offering a good or service in return.

how good can a person's understanding of a character be if they don't do the bare basics like a bio, a layout, preferences, or a writing sample? if a person doesn't even bother to change the layout, that's a red flag.

eeh disagree wrt layout, i have a couple rp partners who are great writers but just can't be bothered to fiddle with journal code. pretty html proficiency does not always correlate to players who perfectly understand their characters

i def click away if there's no permissions or even just an info blurb, tho. hard to give somebody a starter when you've got no idea what their prefs are

-0.5 hard disagree about the layout. messing with code is a pain and not for everyone or they're still looking around for a layout that they like. a writing sample would also be entirely optional.

but everyone should have even the most straightforward of character blurbs and general preferences/permissions on their journal.

I haven't seen writing samples very often and I don't think a layout is a proof of anyone's understanding of a character. I've had PSLs that lasted years with players who had minimal info on their journals and short threads with people who like to pretty up their journals more than they like to rp.

If someone is seriously worried about sounding too enthusiastic and then dropping a thread, the easy solution is to not sound so enthusiastic, right? They should just tag out and see what happens. Who knows, maybe it'll be good or it'll be so bad the other player is happy to be ghosted.
