Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. is it convenience so much as that's what games themselves tend to celebrate? like characters who don't celebrate christmas celebrating christmas in panfandom games never even registers to me at this point when many games have actual event prompts acknowledging the holiday when it comes around. i've known plenty of people who would passingly acknowledge christmas/give gifts without being christian since it's kind of more commercial than it isn't these days, even when they were jewish.

but i consider it a matter of convenience if theyre celebrating what most western countries consider the "default" and not even paying lip service to their own faith, which i think is what op outlined

it's absolutely possible to have a character involved in festive events in a game (eg. christmas, although easter seems somewhat more nebulous to me if I'm honest. is easter that big a deal in games?), and still acknowledge that it's not what a character would ordinarily celebrate, or mention that they're doing it as a social matter, or find literally any way of acknowledging a self-described religious character's own religion.

i'm still waiting for op to name the character because i actually can't think of a marvel character who actually is that religious and jewish. most of the jewish characters aren't observant through choice or apparent circumstance. even kitty pryde has been inconsistent depending on her writer at the time (usually it's jewish writers who even remember she's supposed to be jewish lol). i'd side-eye anyone who made her "pretty religious" as op described. that feels like it might be an rper over compensating and not understanding what that actually means for a person of jewish faith.

i forgot to add my other point: if it is kitty pryde or someone like magneto i'm fairly sure they've both been shown celebrating christmas (at least in a secular way) in their canons as well, so it's wouldn't be all that ooc anyway

having flashbacks to a time where live action peter parker complained about how characters who canonically celebrate christmas were celebrating christmas and why not hanukkah

killmonger (yes, that killmonger) chimed in to protest the injustice before publicly offering to celebrate it with peter

i can't remember if the player even wrote him celebrating all eight nights, or just complained to complain

I've seen Easter events far less than Christmas but once I was in a game with the rise of the guardians rabbit dude and he ran a player plot easter thing. I don't remember what game but I remember eggs and enjoying it??
