rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

anticipate that this is an unpopular opinion but i would vastly prefer one meme a week on bs and i think it would better encourage people to tag with new people slash make it feel way less dead which you would think it is apart from tfln

i feel like part of what's fun to me in games is figuring out what i could make of a prompt given my character's whole deal and i think if bs also limited itself it would also mimic the "appointment" memeing that tfln has become

just my onion though

unpopular for a reason. there's too many different preferences for who wants to play what to limit it to a singular meme a week. even just one a day is pushing it. you can't make people tag people they don't want to play. the same twenty-forty people are playing in memes and they're either not interested in x canon or x character or x player. bs is just not going to be 'revived'. it can't be. we're aging out. we're getting grumpy in what we want to play and who we want to play it. and i know i myself just do not have the energy to force myself to play in a meme with a concept with a player/character/canon i don't want to because 'it's the only thing there'. removing options isn't going to force engagement.

the same characters are in the same memes over and over. what they NEED to do is not throw themselves in every new meme and concentrate on actually playing the threads they have. seeing someone comment to every character on a meme in a flurry of activity that day that they drop the next day to carry on trying new stuff in a new meme the next day is a fomo attitude that makes some people not want to play with them. i don't expect anyone's undivided attention on memes, but i'd like to get more than ten tags in before that memes dropped and have that be a repeat behavior to the point i stop playing with someone.

if memes were to get dropped down, i'd just make my own musebox and open posts and drag people i want to play with in there as opposed to waiting for the one meme a month i might want to play. it's an open comm for a variety of canons, players, and preferences. it should not be limited more than it is. make a new comm with once a week postings if you want. post that meme in a crosspost to bs.

i don't think bs can be revived, i think the way bs is set up with multiple varieties of memes every day is much better suited for the of bs of yesteryear when the playerbase was much larger

& i'm skeptical that people will really ever stop putting themselves on every new meme posted as long as the volume continues on as it has because blank topleveling is low effort and much easier to do instead of your tags. like it would be nice but not really sure what would prompt people to change their behavior

the problem is that you're looking at bs like it's a game. it's not. it's not supposed to have the same kind of engagement a game has. there's no monthly ac requirement. there's no 'you need to tag all your cast/x amount of game mates'. bs is memebells is sws is every other open community dressing room, but this, like memebells from lj, was based around the concept of memes. the open engagement of having things there as a jumping off place to start some rp. and it's supposed to be casual.

there is no 'playerbase'. there's passing through people. i'll avoid new bs stuff for a month or more sometimes when i'm happy to play the threads i have going. sometimes i'm on every day for a week looking for something new. that's what it is for me. that's what it is for a lot of people. some people take months long, if not year long breaks. others use it for something to do between game events because they're bored. it's not supposed to be anyone's main 'event' in the sense of getting all your rp needs. find your little group and go play in a psl.

your mistake, imo, is thinking that anyone needs to change their behavior. they don't. you can limit it to one meme a week and all it's going to do is make people drift off. that seems like a shitty thing to do if you genuinely want engagement. i don't want to play with certain mediums, which is all that's on some memes. i don't like some ooc versions of some characters. i'm not going to play with them just because they're the only handful that dumped on the meme that week. limiting options is not how you encourage engagement. looking at the activity on bs as if it's something to gauge or moderate is problematic. it's not a game. stop trying to treat it like one.

anon i'm just saying what i think would make bakerstreet suck less than it has lol, i promise you i am not a mod if that's what you're concerned about. you can feel free to continue to not play with whoever you want

if you're happy with the level of activity bakerstreet has and the number of memes there are luckily enough for you that's the bakerstreet of reality

Or they could use a queue or moderate it a little more? I always figured BS to be for the people who don't use psl or museboxes. If you have the ability or friendcircle for that then more power to you but bs is not as daunting as going to a random game's tesdrive that you aren't going to bother apping for.

why would you think it would make people do that? when i see a character on a meme that i'm not interested in playing with, i'm not going to tag them. it doesn't matter if i see them on twenty different memes, i'm still not going to want to tag them because either i'm not interested in the character or their canon or i've threaded with the player before and our styles didn't mesh.

i think it would make everything more centralized, which i think is part of why games (and tfln) are livelier? it's not exactly the same (games are also fun for other reasons, ie cr, tfln is lower effort) but since we're a smaller community than we used to be i think focus would help.

i also am usually pretty inclined to tag with strangers if it's a character i'm interested in but don't really ever feel inclined enough to hunt through 40 different memes to see who's around and actively tagging, who posted themselves to a dozen memes and is more focused on takers they got somewhere else, etc. so i usually default to whoever's bs links on plurk

go play in a musebox or psl if all you're doing is playing what's linked on plurk. that's not the purpose of bakerstreet.

which doesnt imply an instruction manual at all, it implies that what's being said goes against the spirit and stated purpose of the comm, which tbh, just having one single controlled meme a week and nothing else does. you are indeed better off trying to get psls if this is how you want to use bs

to me the purpose and spirit of bakerstreet is just a public community to post contextless prompts for you to tag in with any character on your roster you'd like, if there were four thousand memes posted on thursday or four it wouldn't change that

yes i am too lazy to do legwork that exists in the first place because someone desperately needs to post 5 varieties of a you are now a frog meme per week which no one responds to

all it would do is make people tag less, not more. you're not going to magically convince people to tag memes that don't interest them. if there's only one meme posted per week, the people who don't want to play in that particular meme just won't tag at all, so you'll end up with an even smaller potential pool of people to play with.

nontagging would be punishable by jail time

one a week is too few, but i wouldn't mind seeing memes stay on the front page long enough to actually get views

the "dwrp is just dying/you're using bakerstreet wrong" anons refuse to understand how many people simply aren't showing up to post anymore because the community is all spam
