This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. there's a character i'm considering rping whose skin colour is depicted pretty inconsistently throughout canon material, but it is inconsistent in a consistent way, so to speak -- they start out being drawn a bit lighter-skinned at the beginning of the (long running) series and are now always drawn with a darker skin tone. this is also true of other official materials like merchandise, art for supplementary materials, and so on. which of these do you think would be the best option for icons if i was going to start playing this character?

1. make icons from whatever official art i like and pay no mind to whether they depict the skin tone consistently or not
2. make icons from whatever official art i like and edit the skin colour in the ones sourced from earlier art to be darker to match the later art
3. make icons either from earlier art only or later art only so that the skin colour is consistent without me needing to edit the art
4. other?

additional info: this is a drawn medium set in a fantasy world where the colour of the characters' skin has no in-universe relevance. i'm white and trying not to step on any toes. i hope this is not crossing the line into too political

would also just use whatever official art pulled from all points in the canon depending on where the good expressions are

which yeah means the skin tone might mix and match but eh lighting and coloring can be insistent across even official art anyway so i honestly wouldnt even pay it much thought on another person's icons

if somebody does give you shit abt it you can just, again, point to it being a thing throughout the canon art. (and then maybe avoid that person moving forward bc yikes who even has time for rando beef like that wtf...)

i would personally do 2 just because i like my icons to match but i would think absolutely nothing of anyone doing any of the above. i doubt i would even notice unless it was pointed out to me.
