Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.

it works for me but it's spotty sometimes. Occasionally all the usernames on the list will be greyed out, and when that happens, it means it almost never stays logged in longer than two seconds

what is the consensus for character communities (sandbox?) should they be open or locked? if currently open and all post visible is it ok to lock them?

When apping for games, should the thread samples be in the style I usually write in? Like if I usually write in prose should I not have my samples in brackets?

Also, should I only link threads with samples of a certain maximum tag length? Like if on average my tags are 500-700 words should I try to write a thread with shorter tags to send as a sample?

It's been a long time since I've applied to a game and I'm not sure of the norms. Thank you, nonnies.

i don't think i've ever seen a prose or bracket requirement for tags so you should be fine sending either.

same with word per tag requirement, we don't really do that here unless it's a sample piece and not a thread. then you have to adhere to what the mod states in the app requirements. otherwise, just aim for a decent number of comments in the thread (usually at least 10 from you is a good indicator).

most game apps have instructions on what they are looking for, so just make sure what you do adheres to that too.

How do I deal with players who need a LOT of handholding? As in being more mod work than 3-4 others put together. How do I discourage that behavior?

this is probably a terrible answer tbqh, but when i was a mod i had a couple of players like this and i just stopped responding to their questions in particular when they were really, really trivial

the one i remember being the most work stopped asking questions and also dropped a while later, but idk if that had anything to do with the questions thing

tbh it depends, if they were useless deadweight players who asked questions for the sake of justifying their inactivity via mod ambiguity, or nitpicky players who repeatedly obsessed over shit like how many pills are in the bottle mods gave them (because they didn't want to write 'a few' in a post if there was actually 'many') I usually came up with polite ways to tell them to reread the post or get the stick out of their ass and get over it

if they were otherwise good, engaged players I tried to figure out if there was a pattern in the questions they asked and structure my posts to pre-empt them and reduce the amount of work down the road

having flashbacks to a player who used to ask questions, only to respond to mod answers with a set of multi-paragraph questions that boiled down to "how can my character never look stupid or make a mistake ever and also win the game?"

I assume there aren't any official numbers, but how many people do you think are active in DWRP? Does this fluctuate over the course of the year (I assume at least during Dec/Jan, maybe June-ish)?

Any other DWRP statistics you can think of, whether personal or not? Average amount of threads you have going at a time, how many threads on average get dropped? How many games do you tend to play in at once? I am a curious nonny.

Depends on what you mean by active, but my guess is we're at least 200 players but not more than 500 that still tag around. Mostly just guesstimating considering Peacock had 100 players who got in, and that's just one game. There are plenty of other players who would never join a smut game in other games, but there's also plenty of player overlap across games. Then there's also the ones who only meme/psl.

I'm using VLC to take screencaps of a show. I'd like to set it up to automatically swap to new episodes while I'm away from the computer, so I can get through the entire series while I'm asleep or at work.

How do I do that without VLC wiping out old caps with new caps that have identical names?

there's a couple new characters i wanna toss around bs lately but it'll be real wobbly voicetesting so i've been debating if i wanna put my name on them out the gate...

For nonnies who use Plurk, do you usually put the subject of your post, like: "(Spongebob RP) Today I tagged Squidward"?

I'm trying to get into using Plurk for DWRP, and I don't plan on really posting anything myself not about RP, but I wasn't sure if I should tag it as such anyway.

hey all! to preface, i know this is dumb and stupid, which is why i'm looking for advice. it's something i've struggled with for awhile and despite my efforts, it still bothers me.

i tend to play from somewhat small fandoms where i'm usually the only rper for a character, and it's pretty exciting to find canonmates. on occasion, there will be maybe one other player who plays the same character i do. despite knowing it literally doesn't mean anything deep, i always get a little shocked and sad when i see my canonmates head over to play with the other version of my character.

reasonably, i know from their perspective, it's likely just a "wow! two cakes!" situation. alternatively, they may genuinely vibe with the other rper better oocly or in terms of writing. whatever the reason, it's fair. still, i get pretty bummed out and i know i shouldn't. i end up feeling like i'm probably not a very good version of [character] compared to the other player and get hesitant to tag that canonmate again. i think a part of me worries canonmates will inevitably end up comparing us and preferring one or the other, even though honestly that's also valid too.

does anyone have any suggestions for how to maybe reframe the situation or ways of thinking about it that worked for you, if you've ever felt this way? or other tips/ideas? it's a little frustrating because logically i know it's all valid from the canonmate's and duplicate player's end, but my feelings aren't cooperating :(

For nonnies who have played characters in games who have secret identities/pseudonyms, do you disclose their real name when signing up? Like would you put "Greg 'The Hamburglar' McDonald," or "Greg McDonald aka The Hamburglar" on the app?

And as an extra question because I'm curious, if you've played a character like that have you ever had CR where your character revealed their real name/identity to another?

I have an incredibly stupid question:

Is it frowned upon to rp the "English voice" of a character from an anime that was super popular during the late 90s/early 00s, when most people from North America watched the English dubs that were broadcast?

Is there even a noticeable difference in writing/dialogue, considering there are no audio inflections in plain text like in rp or even fanfic?

this is objectively kind of embarrassing and stupid but i want to get some anon thoughts anyway:

do people really still hate "ecats-style" rp that much? after seeing ecats specifically getting called out on golden peacock's not-allowed-samples type list in their apps admittedly i felt really bad about wanting to app in the future and it made me nervous about potentially having to deal with mods that might have some sort of weird grudge or players who have a weird sense of rp elitism

i'm mostly asking because i really did think the community moved past this sort of thing years ago and that most people don't even know what ecats is anymore

sorry if this is a dumb question, but what's the difference between a musebox, a sandbox, and a dressing room? are those the only kinds of rp comms outside of games and memes, or am i missing something? thank you!

might be a bit of a dumb question as a greenhorn, but is there a consensus on tagging people who play the same character as you do? eg, someone leaving a top level as cloud strife and tagging them with cloud strife. i always think the prospect could be really fun when i see people with the same muse as me on bakerstreet, but i don't want to step on toes unknowingly

silly silly question, but how do people use the layouts with just a photo/links in the middle? i don't want to link specific profiles in case i step on their toes, but i think they're really pretty lol.
