The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Ugh, my sympathies anon. I haven't gotten that because my activity is mid-tier and I'm more reactive when it comes to plotting, but I've seen enough people wanked on for...being involved and invested in the game they're playing.

Yeah, I agree there, sorry if I came off argumentative. I just really am shit enough at journal-prettifying that I probably could learn something new just from scrolling through icon collections and layout templates. Like "Oh wow, I didn't know HTML could even do that, you kiddos sure are clever" type learning/appreciation.

this. i used to get so frustrated with crafting the hell out of my tags and trying to nail down perfect snappy sentence structure and dialog and no repeating words and no funky phrasing and dangling prepositions and

it would take me literally hours to bang out a single tag (a nice long prose tag, but still)

now i polish until it's about 80% of the way there, give it a once-over to make sure there aren't any huge missing chunks and conveys everything i wanna convey, and hit send.

i'm a happier rper now that i have threads that go places and i don't get bogged down by my inane perfectionism, wasting time trying to fine polish that last 20%

those jokes and memes that go around some circles depicting extroverts as intrusive attention-seeking, book-tea-and-cat-hating monsters out to ruin the peaceful existence of poor defenseless introverts don't help either.

some people just cannot tell the difference between being outgoing and being an attention whore.

exactly, any dissatisfaction i may have from posting tags that weren't 100% perfect in my eyes is more than made up for by the fact that i actually finish threads on a regular basis now and can take on more threads at a time.

easily? most of the people in my game have jobs, social lives and hobbies outside of the game and manage to stay on top of tags as well. i'm surprised this is even a question tbqh.

man. my rp partner is totally invested in assumed postcanon cr for my char (A) with a proximate third party char neither of us play (B). A and B only hang out as part of a large group in canon, they barely speak, word of god effectively says "A does not like B". i cannot see the compatibility tbh so i asked her to explain

she gave me a list of reasons B appeals to A, most of which i can't see but at least one of which i think A would *wholeheartedly despise* lol, it would sour him on B entirely

i don't have a huge investment in not-B and it's not a ship etc (we both ship A with her char C) so i'll assume the cr but it's making me #unsure as she got me into the canon and probably knows my char better than me. also she loves B and i don't notice B. but it feels ooc which i dislike

this is such a strange take to me.

a lot of hobbies take a lot of time. i know badminton hobbyists who can spend two hours a day after work playing, and about five hours on the weekends. Some people can binge episodes daily from their favorite shows. my dad spends around four hours a day taking care of all his guppies (it's a fuckton of guppies) because he enjoys having them.

if you don't want to spend a lot of time on rp, then you can always cut back on tags and slow down. it's only unhealthy if you aren't enjoying it and forcing yourself.

i'm not sure how to word this concisely enough for the subject line, but here's what i am looking for:

as part of my oc's backstory, a love interest goes missing. assumed dead but comes back, changed somehow. transformed, experimented on, undead - something.

the obvious options here are werewolf or vampire type transformation. zombie, even. i would really like to branch out and learn about options that are less oversaturated.

hoping to find some recs to broaden my horizons for fleshing out this history.

what's their cultural background? where do they live, where did they grow up? you could research undead mythology appropriate to their culture or that place and draw on that.

is anyone else with ADHD reading this thread and sweating self consciously

more than once i've been in games with "popular" players who, to my knowledge, were never anything but friendly and nice in all their interactions but who had one or two people who HATED them. the only complaints they could muster (if they even bothered to explain themselves) were that they were cliquey or they were too involved or something similarly anodyne issue. every single time it just came off like they were just bitter about not being popular themselves.

and before an anon who can't read inevitably jumps in: yes, sometimes popular players can be wanky or rude behind the scenes, this was not the case in these instances that i knew of.

judging by the lack of interest in game posts, it doesn't look good. having a player publicly badmouthing the game and mods on plurk doesn't help either
