Ok. Those texting memes on Bakerstreet where people use ‘courier’ or ‘courier new’ to make it seem like text font.

This is really nitpicky and shouldn’t bother me as much as it does but for the sake of my OCD, why doesn’t the code work on phones?

For example, if I’m on my laptop and I use HTML to get either one of those fonts, it’s fine. But when I phone tag (and I do this a lot) the HTML doesn’t work. My text looks different.

So I think, it’s just my phone displaying it like that. Then later, when I check it via a laptop, it’s a weird font. It’s not the generic DW font that you see here nor is it ‘courier’ or ‘courier new.’ It’s just different. And I got get why that happens.

Anyone know?

And sometimes this happens as above. I basically typed out the HTML and said ‘this is what happens when I try and do this on my phone’ to show you guys the weird text and it has t put anything there!

there was a thread about this last post but make sure your phone isn't doing smart quotes or your html tags won't work right. They look like regular quote marks but they're a different character than the quotes used for html which means it's technically the "wrong" syntax despite looking correct

OP here again to say it worked! For iPhones, general > settings > keyboard > toggle smart punctuation off

dw doesn't let you use certain html tags for anon comments and for some reason setting the font to courier is one of them.

pretty sure that's only true if you preview first.

if my upper comment isn't in courier, then i just disproved myself. i'm not previewing this first, but most of the anon glitches that screwed things up or used to screw up posting (like previewing and then your comment posts as a new header instead of the thread it was originally in) when you previewed it first.

to note, i used the span style version that was posted in the last info thread, so if there's another way to courier, that might work. (oddly, i got the captcha to check for html, but it didn't post it. i've always just used < tt > < big > myself when doing texting posts.

i use <font face=courier>.

looks like font face= still blanks the text out. i did get the captcha so maybe that's having the same effect as previewing.

which is weird, because i'm pretty sure < tt > < big > works in anon. testing with a line below.

i also got the captcha for that, but it seems that one works when the courier and font face/family/spans don't always.

I have a similar but opposite issue.

I can type the code and I know it appears for others. I can later see it on my laptop. But sometimes, the code doesn't show up as the code on my phone, even if I typed the HTML on my laptop. It just appears as normal text.

It's a minor issue, but it does occasionally trip me up when phone tagging, and I can't tell the thread was in text speak because I can't see any in the thread. If it happened all the time, I'd assume a browser thing was overriding the font, but it works when other people do it sometimes, so it's very mysterious.

might be that your phone/browser has a different default font library, so it doesn't display the typeface you're specifying. i play a character who canonically speaks in an unusual typeface which is supported on my desktop but not on my iphone. i had to name two different fonts so it would display on both, so the font tag is something like font face="default, iphone backup".

dunno if that's the same with you, but you can do some tests to see if it's the issue.
