poops efficiently from the butt

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

that's something else that i think might help if games were transparent with— what does "disciplinary action" look like in your game? and maybe im wrong here and that's a thing better decided on a case by case basis, but when things DO break bad and players are baying for someone's blood im personally not always sure what they expected to happen.

there was a comment made in one of the fellden discussions recently where some anon was complaining about how "nothing will come of it" and another anon asked, what they expected at this point? there's no RP jail you can throw someone in. and, depending on the offence, it's often not fair to penalize someone for.ev.er. so what does a warning look like in your game? what does a slap on the wrist get you? what's your game's' capital punishment? what should I expect to happen with players who break the rules? if players know stuff like that they might not speculate so much about mods moderating fairly

that is a really good point. a lot of these discussions happen because people believe they are being treated unevenly and don't trust the good will of the people running games, so they talk about bans and strikes and try to compare them. but the problem is they often do this with incomplete information, which turns into speculation, which is malicious and bad for games.

trying to encourage players to mediate their own issues first is always, always preferable i think, because they understand why they perceive things the way they do. from there on, if they're bringing issues to you, you need to be clear with all parties about what is inappropriate and what can or will have consequences, since communication styles vary. this will reduce tensions between mods and players and players and other players. you don't need to announce your bans and strikes to uninvolved parties, but being as open as possible with involved parties will reduce the need to do so.
