it's not the aef mods' job to release a PSA warning the rp world at large that the fellden mods are huge wankers who are apparently vindictive enough to fabricate fake deets on someone they didn't like

those kinds of actions speak for themselves. the discussion here on rpa makes it pretty clear, they wouldn't even need to check wg for proof

I'm not sure what to think about Fellden/the ex-players in general, and I don't mean as concerns the Aef mods, but as concerns RP overall.

Fellden is dead and has been for a long time, so re-opening too many other dead game conflicts would open a lot of old wounds for many players. Better to let most of it lie, I think.

On the other hand? I'm still thinking whatever mods did this need their identities out there, because it's becoming clearer and clearer that the players who kept insisting that the mods weren't real mods were actually right.

If you played in Fellden, criticism was aggressively silenced. If you criticized the game on Plurk, your name got thrown onto Wankgate, or other players (I won't name names here, but some may remember) would give you "hints" to be silent. Certain players would Plurk again and again about how wonderful the mods were and how much people had better not say otherwise, and they would do so to an extent that felt almost like an intimidation tactic.

There was an effort to police players' private spaces or the name "Fellden." Even the tamest criticisms of the game on anon comms were shut down and shut down very very aggressively.

You may remember how much the Fellden threads blew up with aggressive whiteknighting and defensiveness, and I do think most of it was some kind of aggressive mod group action. Of course, players in a faction based game are going to be rude jerks and DWRPers are kind of entitled and awful, so sure, players were on the anon comms complaining about everything themselves, but it's becoming clearer and clearer that the mods also very much didn't want players to actually discuss their conflicts with one another or with the mods in any kind of open way.

They wanted to control the narrative and their players. They were not real mods.

I don't want them punished forever or run out of RP necessarily, and after their game crashed and they've been criticized so much, they've already gone through a lot. But I also think they too owe the RP world a real apology. Though I'm not holding my breath.

(This is getting away from Aef, tho, so maybe a new thread if anyone wants to take this up.)

... putting Fellden aside, I just read the apology from the Aef mods, and I have to say, this is a good apology.

And this is what being a real mod looks like.

The mods make a lot of dumb mistakes but they've been good about owning them. Our standard of good mod should strive to be a better mod, not ~flawless HR customers service drone~

Fellden anons were not the paragons of virtue you desperately want them to be. Anons denied player harassment was going on and started deetless sameanon grudgewanking that the mods here called out

No one is saying that, though. The game was toxic and by the end, everyone was toxic. Everyone was witch hunting everyone else while assuming others were doing the same to them.

But I do hold the mods to a bit of a higher standard than to go and grudgewank a former player who didn't even get a strike. Mods have more authority than players. Bitchy players can grudgewank you, but a grudgewanking mod can get you banned.

That's the big, huge difference of degree.

plus, the fellden mods are still anon. unless someone figures out their identities, they're going to experience no tangible consequences for anything they did or didn't do other than people bitching about them on anoncomms (in this case, rightly so). their players, on the other hand, can and clearly HAVE been followed by shit that happened in this game, even when they didn't do anything wrong and simply existed in a game with mods who would pull garbage moves like this.

Yes, anons are going on a witch hunt. It's bad. It's hurting people. I want it to stop. And one great way for it to stop would be to hold the actual mods accountable. It's cowardly of these ex-mods to do something like this and then just go running away. I can't blame them, the ex-mods, for the anon speculation going on, because it's clear many people are involved in that, but what I can blame them for is that they care so little about anyone but themselves that they've fostered an environment in which everyone but them always has to answer for the things they do, and even, in many cases, for things they did not do.

And yes, these ex-mods owe basically everyone an apology at this point, including the Aef mods.

The other thing is that we as a community agree to let mods mod anon for *their* privacy and protection, but that is a huge responsibility in terms of protecting the privacy of their players.

When a mod account is no longer a mod account, when the game is dead, you're not a concerned mod stepping in to a player conflict (and considering how vague the various Fellden player conflicts actually were, I'm beginning to wonder how much the mods really did just outright fabricate), you are a stalker under a fake identity.

You're a player or someone in or around Aef or with people in or around Aef, posing as a mod, and abusing your former mod account.

The comparison to our infamous bad stalking/harassing mods is not entirely in-apt at this point, and no one in the right mind thinks your privacy takes precedent if you're going to act like that.

fellden closed just over a month ago. that's not a long time. the last post made on the log comm was 5 weeks ago. i think covid has y'all thinking time's passed that hasn't. whatever else you want to say/think, this notion that fellden's been closed for eons needs to stop being brought up as a reason to get over shitty behavior because 'it was so long ago and is clearly grudgewank'.

it's a false narrative. a month and change isn't that long ago. people can still be mad about it, especially if that month and a half of time results in the mods disbanding and not communicating and using the 'closed' mod journal to stir wank in another unrelated game. details matter.

i don't know what you think you're entitled to. a transparent public apology to the game it concerns is good, but really the only one who deserves this is the v player
