what is it about Eames from Inception that makes him so popular in dwrp? The film was ten years ago (ouch) and I still see him played often in memes and in games. I don't mind him, he's interesting enough, but I don't get it??

tom hardy. and his character is sort of sexually fluid or appears to be (dream a little bigger, darling) and is a bit unorthodox. that seems to appeal to people.

sure, I can agree with that, but that's not unique to Eames? Surely there are other characters played by handsome men and whose sexuality is ambiguous enough that you can imagine what you want? From more recent fandoms and who have more screen time/backstories to them?

i see someone playing eames (or anyone from an "older fandom") the same as someone picking up a character from a newer fandom. they find the character interesting or the character calls out to them. if they have been playing eames since the movie came out there might be a lot of CR they enjoy or headcanons they have for the character. sometimes muses never die and people can play that character long after the canon dies and they become lone canon warriors.

it's an accessible canon that's easier to watch than a long-standing franchise. a lot of the fandom stuck around, it's not just eames.

I wouldn't know about the Inception fandom, but I feel like Eames is the only character I still see around a lot in dwrp (I could be wrong tho), hence my question.

I don't have a problem with people rp'ing from "older" canons. I do too. I was just curious about this specific character's popularity 10 years after the film came out

it's not that deep, anon. it's literally just preference. it's the same reason why people still play from any older canons and continue to play older characters. why do you still see movie john constantines? because of keanu and he's a fun character to play. there are plenty of singular chars from older canons that putter around and they're all played because someone likes so and so or likes that char or just really vibes with it.

there's no singular answer that will shine a light on the why of this particular character from any specific player anymore than there would be for any other older canon/char. it seems like a silly question over an oddly specific character.

I get what you're saying but:

a) I don't see nearly as many Keanu!Constantine players as I see Eames players around. In fact, I think I've seen maybe one a long time ago, when I see plenty of Eames even today.

b) Constantine is part of a whole universe that features a long-running comic book, a DCTV show, and a recent animated series in which he's canonically bisexual. That's a lot more backstory/screen time than Eames, even if it's not all Keanu.

I can't think of another character from a single film not linked to any extended universe/series, from this long ago, that's still so popular. Hence my question about Eames.

but yeah, I feel like there is no answer to this other than "people like Eames so they play him", which is fine by me /shrugs

if you "don't get it" then you don't get why people play a character from anything. i've seen people play characters from band of brothers and that's older than inception by a few years. i've seen people play from romeo + juliet and that's from the 90s. i've seen some people play from shit from the 80s, the 70s (rare but it's happened).

people play these characters because they want to. it's that simple. that's all there is to "get".

I absolutely agree with the fact that people should feel free to play from whatever canon they like, no matter how old or "obscure". My question about Eames was just because I feel like he's such a popular character still (contrary to all the examples you mentioned, which are pretty rare finds imo) and I wondered if there was something specific about him I was missing.

From what people are saying here there isn't, he's just a fun character to play and that's as good a reason as any :)

yeah a lot of characters are? again, this line of questioning really makes no sense when there are other characters from inception that are also played and some with way more frequency (all those arthurs and ariadnes).

I personally haven't seen any Arthurs in ages, and I know of only one Ariadne so that led me to believe Eames was randomly more popular! But several people have pointed this out in this thread, so I must have been mistaken about Eames still getting the most attention from this fandom.
