very little of that was discussed on the game discord at all; afaik owlie organized all that and tossed it up there

if that's really the case, it's less bad, but it still feels like it's all something that could have benefited from a more pre-emptive ooc discussion cycle where everyone could see it and contribute in some way.

and i just want to make it clear i'm not shaming the player or this idea, i just think the execution needs some work, especially since a lot of folks seem to be caught off guard by it, particularly those of us who only had characters on the diplomat side (who basically got to twiddle their thumbs and do nothing but *also* espionage) and weren't actively involved with resistance stuff. plus there's just a general feeling like this leapt ahead of where a lot of people thought the plot was.

i think we can talk politely about potential issues with how this is handled without insulting anyone.

that post kinda IS the pre-emptive OOC talk.

granted it frames things as "we're definitely doing this" (with mod approval--which is something i love about aef, that player initiation is so encouraged) vs "how about & how can we do this," but you can absolutely get in there & suggest a different timeline for things. or talk about how it's a bit of a surprise. or maybe put that feedback on the midmonth post.

that all said!! your willingness to discuss it civilly is very good & we should all strive for that!

oh yeah there's definitely some stuff that can be brought up next midmonth. and for my own sake, i don't actually have a lot of worthwhile takes on this, more just repeating expressions i've seen from other players on my timeline.

overall, i think folks are willing to work with this, but there's kind of a sentiment of "wish it hadn't snuck up on me" if that makes any sense.

absolutely does! & i'm sympathetic to that; in this case i was more delighted by the abruptness but i could have as easily been upset if i had frex had a longer character arc planned out around a long detente with dorchacht that won't happen now. (but also as i mentioned elsewhere this did feel to me like a logical extension of the game's extreme IC tension going into dorchplot, which is another reason i wasn't much bovvered by it)

however i feel like too long a lead time & too many pre-plotting posts might have hung this up for months--what would be a good compromise for you in terms of advance warning on major plot elements vs that risk?

yes, this, re: feeling blindsided.

don't get me wrong, it is definitely cool that the character/player was able to move along the plot this much (i have praised the mods before on being accommodating in that respect), but with a week left to the month, i did expect things go a bit differently. granted, i don't necessarily think that means we need to have a plotting post before a plotting post, but it is kinda jarring.

perhaps this is influenced by who i regularly talk to about the game but this felt like a logical extension of people trying to figure out how to turn things into an open rebellion from the jump

danaerys frex already went in there loaded for bear; so did her close cr & there was a lot of "ok how can we blow this up but not TOO up" in her ic preplot post

so surprising a little that someone jumped on it for the last week of THIS month vs october being "okay how can we make dorchacht free" month leading into "free dorchacht round 2 electric boogaloo" in november but not...that far out of left field

I can't wait to just wrap up dorchplot and go back to monster fucking in aefenglom. pls, I don't want that to last another month, it's really tiresome. I can take it for a month as a change of pace but no more.

I've liked this plot and been fairly active with it but please god not another month or more

so happy someone pulled the trigger on something that can wrap. this. up. we did not need more OOC hand wringing about what to do. we've all been doing that from moment one

let something big happen so we can be done with this plot in good time
