illegible how? esl? typos? weird lingo?

no typos, not quite weird lingo. i wondered at first if they were esl but i doubt it.

they're just trying to make things sound ~pretty and majestic~ and instead it just ends up being a sentence full of words i'm not sure go together.

i kind of want to ask for a link to an example, but i don't want to have it be picked apart by anons over nothing. could you sock it to me?

huh. the weirdest thing about that tag is that the voice and vocalization is fine. i'm not familiar with the canon, but i've seen some of the characters around. but yeah, that uh... inner narrative makes no goddamn sense. it's almost like two separate people are writing it, because the inner monologue and narrative should follow with the same 'voice' as the 'spoken' word, but it's so split, it literally comes off like one person wrote the narrative and another came in to write the voice.

i'm not too surprised you don't want to tag back. maybe they were tired? or on medication? i mean, you could always try one tag back and see if the next reply is the same? but yeah, that's pretty illegible. not even in a purple prose kind of way. just like... i dunno. kind of like a stream of consciousness writing way.

i'm so curious now because i know a player whose actual characterization is fine for the most part, but their writing is horrendous in a long-winded, disjointed, "i have no idea what you're trying to say here" kind of way (but there aren't a lot of typos or weird jargon and it's not 'bad' writing per se) and i can't help but wonder if it's the same player

i don't know enough about the canon to leave a canny clue, so i'll leave sharing that up to op, but it's bad writing. it sounds like someone's trying to be the next emotive shakespeare. you could read the words, but they didn't fit in the context of the tag and sort of went off on this unrelated existential mental meandering. certainly not something you'd want to write with a stranger if you expected or wanted them to tag you back. it's chartreuse prose.

likely not the same person, then, but i've definitely had my run-ins with that sort of player as well and struggled to get through even a singular reply. i love introspection and whatnot as much as the next person but there are some special ones out there.

it's a small canon so i'm reluctant to give too much away, but if you're super super curious leave a sock.

i will say though that it's a royal character and the rper is over flourishing their monologue to the point of losing clarity. my personal feeling is that their characterization is off because it's just not the kind of speech habits i find align with them. the character in canon is very clear and says what they mean.

this reads more like a tolkien character written by someone that doesn't know how to make a character sound ethereal.

i might try to give them a second tag (i'd like to. i'm typically a nice guy like that.) but i dug into their history and it's pretty much... the same.

the sock you left the link to, yeah, if you've looked at their past writing and it's all the same, i'd give it a pass. it sounds like that's how they do and you can't fix that.
