Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.

How much do you backread in a new game before you join? Do you make plans or just jump in?

I don't. I don't make plans either. I look at the game premise, check out the faq, then check to make sure there's no one I might have issues with on the Taken List before I reserve.

if i'm apping into a cast, i look at a few of the most recent posts to check tag quality, check who (some) cross-canon friends are, and make sure i'm not apping into an ic drama fest

i also look at the cast list to make sure there's no one i'm avoiding

if WANKER47 is buddy-buddy with most of the cast, i probably won't app. unless i can trust them to either not tag me or not interact with me unless it's rp related

i don't. i only check the ic comms if i really can't tell what the game would be like from the info pages alone.

if i like the premise i'll app even if there's no cast or anyone i know.

i'm the type who wants to read everything before i join so i can get details right and skip the whole ic "whats this, what's this, there's obvious world building and details in the air my character wouldn't miss, what's this" because i hate playing that song and dance. admittedly if a game has way too much game lore to read (empatheias, unfortunately. prismatica's faq is pretty unwieldy to slog through too) then i get overwhelmed feeling and turned off from apping.

if everything is pretty easy to digest then i look at the taken list to see if there's any wankers or people i know i don't get along with, a good balance of mediums, and characters i think my prospective character much have fun or interesting cr with. i don't usually make plans more extensive beyond that.
