first of all, there's no such thing as "alt-left", it's just far left. "alt right" was a term that particular political ideology coined for itself.

secondly it's neither and both, as folks tend to forget reddit is a massive platform with thousands of subreddits. but it is worth nothing that specific subreddits are used as organization platforms for the alt-right and, as far as i know, the left doesn't have any real organized presence on there and most subreddits named after certain active far left political groups are just honeypots.

some of the main "general politics" subs are left-leaning. feels like every post i skim, there's at least a few right-wing tittybabies whining about how it's UNFAIR that the sub is overwhelmingly LEFTISTS and that beautiful repubbies and libbies are downvoted into oblivion.

and of course, pretty much every comment i see with a negative rating is blatantly hateful and useless. op talks about hillary, to use a popular example? KILLARY, LOCK HER UP, CORRUPT, SHE LOST THE ELECTION FOR A REASON, you know the rest.

i've seen some people comment and say they were R/L but if they don't act like a jackass, they don't get downvoted.

this is also true that the genpol subreddits tend to be left-leaning, but only because it's like you said, most of the right-leaning folks showing up in those subreddits are deliberately combative. most of the time they're just people traveling from the alt-right subs to try and "make a point" about how people "react to different viewpoints" by spewing hateful shit and acting like it proves them right when it gets downvoted.

reddit is neither. some subs are more right, some subs are more left. any sub that's either for lgbt people or for media/artists enjoyed by lgbt people is going to be overwhelmingly left for obvious reasons, for instance. people who go into the drag race subreddits and start talking about trump in a sympathetic way get downvoted into oblivion on principle.

Reddit is also confusing as fuck to figure out where to post to if you aren't familiar with the site. The only site I can think of that would be helpful is Quora, but that site requires using your real info which can understandably make people uncomfortable.
