This is why nobody wants to play villains though. Villain players generally have to bend ICness so their villain isn’t running around trying to kill everyone or destroy things like in their canon (or at least tone it down) while hero players tend to see nothing wrong with alerting the entire network of a villain’s presence or, in OP’s case, going after their CR and wrecking it.

tbh it's also on the villain's cr for this. if they trusted and were okay with the villain before, why would they take the hero's word at face value so easily? esp in situations where they've presumably known the villain longer than the hero. it rarely makes sense.

True, it’s just never guaranteed your CR will stay after being “exposed”. Playing a villain just ends up being annoying a lot of the time, and it often feels one-sided. You’re expected to make your villain play nice while everyone wants to “beat” them constantly. You don’t see hero characters ever bending IC to turn a blind eye to a villain so the villain can then attack and defeat them and taunt them constantly. It’s a weird double standard.

i honestly had the opposite problem last time i was in a game. i was bending over backwards with my hero character justifying why they weren't immediately outing this villain to the whole game because i'm not an asshole out to ruin other people's rp, but they never gave me the same consideration in return. i was constantly letting them get away with shit so i didn't step on their toes but they returned the favor. they never let my character have even small victories, so my character was forced to look OOC because they weren't dealing with this villain or outsmarting them like they should have been able to.

a friend is going through something like this right now, but it's not the villain who's trying to escape consequences, it's another hero character who's buttsexing the villain and is allergic to negative cr

that player always goes for the ooc villain ships though so i just advised them to ignore it and keep doing their own thing

if the hero IS doing that then op needs to clarify, because as of now they are only complaining about the hero not being friendly to the villain. and guess what, yes that is to be expected.

"Trying to tank" someone's CR kind of goes beyond not being friendly, which is expected, and it's no longer fun for OP. Which is bad. Thanos and Loki and whoever don't exist in real life, Karen. You're two adults playing pretend on the internet and there should be compromise between both parties to make it fun for both. Except in the case of villains and heroes it's almost always the villain who has to put up with bullshit like this.

communication is a two-way street tho. like yes, hero characters need to fucking get a grip and accept that they're going to lose every so often (and you'd think that would something they'd love bc everyone's all about playing out and jerking off to angst) but villain players need to man up too and make sure they know what they're getting into when they app into a cast, or reach out to new castmates who app in and make sure they have some kind of plan going forward.

like i'd never app thanos into a game with heavy mcu representation without running hitting up the tdm first and talking to the players who tag me ooc to scope out if we'll click. that's just asking for trouble and so is going into a situation like that with the expectation that you'll never run into obnoxious but totally ic reactions like tony or steve flipping out about you on the network. you're playing a fucking villain, what do you expect will happen?
