tbh it's also on the villain's cr for this. if they trusted and were okay with the villain before, why would they take the hero's word at face value so easily? esp in situations where they've presumably known the villain longer than the hero. it rarely makes sense.

True, it’s just never guaranteed your CR will stay after being “exposed”. Playing a villain just ends up being annoying a lot of the time, and it often feels one-sided. You’re expected to make your villain play nice while everyone wants to “beat” them constantly. You don’t see hero characters ever bending IC to turn a blind eye to a villain so the villain can then attack and defeat them and taunt them constantly. It’s a weird double standard.

i honestly had the opposite problem last time i was in a game. i was bending over backwards with my hero character justifying why they weren't immediately outing this villain to the whole game because i'm not an asshole out to ruin other people's rp, but they never gave me the same consideration in return. i was constantly letting them get away with shit so i didn't step on their toes but they returned the favor. they never let my character have even small victories, so my character was forced to look OOC because they weren't dealing with this villain or outsmarting them like they should have been able to.

a friend is going through something like this right now, but it's not the villain who's trying to escape consequences, it's another hero character who's buttsexing the villain and is allergic to negative cr

that player always goes for the ooc villain ships though so i just advised them to ignore it and keep doing their own thing
