I've already talked to both my doctor and my psychiatrist and they think it's the bipolar disorder and the meds. Since I've had trouble finding other meds that keep me functional on preventing mania and depression, they're hesitant to change them and I'm concerned about changing them too since I've tried so many others that didn't work.

They sent me to a neurologist and screened me for stuff like early Alzheimers, brain cancer, etc. to make sure something else wasn't effecting it, just to be sure, and it's all come up clear. MRIs and everything.

Apparently, it's not uncommon to have more issues with concentration if you had a lot of manic episodes before you finally got them under control. Some of the newer studies coming out on BD suggest that you possibly lose brain matter with each manic episode and that getting mania under control earlier can prevent it. But I was unlucky and didn't get diagnosed correctly until my mid-twenties, so I spent most of my teens and early adulthood manic all the time.

Some people just have it harder than others when it comes to psychiatric disorders effecting their memory and concentration. It sucks but that's just how it is. That's why it's so disheartening.

Thanks for the suggestion. I might see how much financial assistance I can get from the company and my insurance and ask my doctors about it when I have some money put away.

The whole thing is tough because I'm also on other meds for other health problems like severe migraines so they have to find what works and is compatible with the other meds. A lot of the stuff I have is intractable and a pain in the ass where I've tried lots of meds and only found 1 that works for each thing.

I've been doing all the stuff you're supposed to do to try to fix it but it's slow going and in the meantime I'm struggling and feel like I'm missing out on the things I used to enjoy because they're too hard to do. I used to love writing and RPing and now it's tough. I do have other hobbies to fall back on like photography and video games and have been getting into those more lately but I still miss the ones I had to take a break on.

oh! speaking of financial assistance!

have you tried contacting the manufacturer about assistance? i know some offer assistance for low income patients. try checking a site like goodrx about lower cost medication.
