I'm so tired of Alucard. I don't want a SotN adaptation. He already got a season showcasing his relationship with Dracula. Let an actual Belmont get to be the main character of Castlevania.

SuperIV, chief. it's the best of the traditional vanias, certified classic.

SA, but also Rondo of Blood. both of these games are considered Must Plays for people interested in the franchise.

i mean it could be argued the metroidvania era has no good belmont games. lament of innocence and harmony of dissonance are both mediocre at best, but there was like ten whole ass games before IGA took over that's nothing but belmonts (except for bloodlines), and quite a few of them are excellent, superIV and rondo especially.

It's definitely way too harsh to say there are no good Belmont games, and kind of weird seeing that Belmont game that the series is based after is considered one of the best.

But I have to agree that the non-Belmont games generally seem to land better and age more gracefully than the Belmont entries, Curse/Legacy of Darkness aside. I'd definitely recommend Symphony of the Night, Aria/Dawn of Sorrow, or Circle of the Moon over the vast majority of other entries.

They probably never played a game prior to SotN. It's the same stupid attitude that FF7 fans have. This was the first one they played, so it's automatically the best.

sotn is generally regarded as being the best game in the series even by people who played the classic vanias, anon. don't get dumb and gatekeep-y over this.

hi, anon in question here. i've played every castlevania with the exception of the Lords of Shadow series, including the shitty gameboy ones on my ol' monochrome gameboy. most of them are crappy nintendo-hard games with good soundtracks. eat my balls.

as the anon that pointed out superIV and rondo as great games, that's probably a fair shake. classic vania games are definitely a super steep difficulty curve
