Still shouldn't have to pay to know about the cast.

Let's cut to the chase though and agree to disagree; you think the content is engaging and worth paying for each time, and I think content about the cast I'm following should be included in the game.

I've thought about getting it now that the hype's died down because I've played almost every other FF, but hearing that the game was incomplete and then seeing them deliver dlcs that sound like content that should've been included in the first place hasn't inspired me with confidence

I didn't think FF15 was amazing, but I enjoyed it. They've patched out most of the major issues and the DLC really is just side stuff. It explains some of what characters were doing during a certain timeskip in the game, but it's not really insanely relevant to the plot, you get the broad strokes of it during normal gameplay. I'd compare it less to, say, the yuffie sidequest in ff7, and more to an extremely abridged version of crisis core, in terms of immediate need to the plot.

people are acting like these were missing parts of the original game and SE is a cackling evil game company that wants to milk out the game as much as possible. having played the episodes, these 100% would not have fit into the original game without it getting clunky and bloated. there is zero stuff in the character episodes that is 100% necessary to fully enjoying the original.

prompto's origin reveal comes totally out of left field. episode ignis and episode gladio were pretty superfluous in terms of plot details but they both had elements that should have been in the main story.

maybe playing from their perspective was out of place but they clearly kept some vital backstory behind lock and key for a reason. they could've better integrated that exposition into the plot instead of dumping it behind a paywall. not to mention the fact that their mechanics weren't even done when the game launched.

its a miracle we got the game at all but it was an unfinished product when it launched and remains an unfinished product now.

vital backstory? really? you mean your entire enjoyment of ffxv hinged on knowing prompto's origins? because the parts of his backstory that actually matter are in the main game.

tell me, how much do we learn about the backstory's of the average ff party member? do we learn anything about steiner's childhood? do we ever see how cyan met his wife? do we ever learn how lulu came to live on besaid?

anon, *nothing* in the character episodes was essential to the main game. it was nice to have, but it was not "vital", get real. you're confusing info that helps you RP a character with what actually makes for good storytelling in a work of complete fiction.

idk anon, ffxv was already way over budget and past any reasonable deadline by the time it came out. i doubt people would have been forgiving about waiting another two years to get all of this content into the vanilla game, which is already pretty massive as it is.

releasing episodic bonus content that can be made using already existing in-game assets is already a formula used in gaming outside of FF. hell it even predates the concept of DLC, back when PC games got "expansion packs" that, sometimes, cost as much as the full original game.

and even to bring it back to ffxv specifically, while the episodes told us *more* about these characters, it wasn't like the original game told us nothing, either. if that was the case, i'd see your argument, but i really don't see it. yeah, this stuff *could* have been in the game, but it didn't *have* to be. that's the whole reason it's *bonus* content. you don't need to play any of the character episodes to enjoy the vanilla game for what it is.

There's not a correct answer, my dude. They bit off more than they can chew and on top of this DLC everyone wants to defend to death they failed us on the most important characters that would have benefited from it other than Ardyn and I'm expecting it to suck badly and feel rushed.

If you would like to make a game that received controversy from the first announcement and had great clips such as "there's no need for women here" and numerous complaints about the final section's change in playstyle, to say nothing of how many patches it's taken to "fix" the game the hill you want to die on, please let me know how you enjoy the new VII, if they ever release it.

Good news, they finally started production after three years I think.

i wasn't defending the game, and you literally just moved all the goal posts of the original argument that the dlc content we got was somehow cut content from the original game. it wasn't. it wasn't shit you needed in the game. it was *bonus* content. as in additional, unnecessary, "hey this is some cool extra stuff we cooked up using assets we already had".

yeah it sucks the episodes for the female characters were cut and i actually agree that ffxv deeply sucks on how it's handled its female characters on top of having no women in the main party. idk why you're trying to make it sound like i'm defending the game's weird sexism.

you shut your whore mouth about nu-VII it's gonna be amazing

it won't be dragged out over many full-price installments, all delayed

it won't be full of bad tie-ins to the bad earlier tie-ins

it won't be full of terrible versions of the original good music

the characters will be written interestingly and not like the anime tropes they slowly turned into for some reason

the turks will go back to how they were before they were sanitized and lame

everything will be charming and fun and not just "hey look at these graphics"

pls its my childhood
