not looking forward to the player coming back from hiatus and everything being about caedra all over again. hope there's some game plot going on so the comms don't get flooded with caedra posts because there's nothing else going on. five network posts is just overkill.

On the one hand, I do understand because it's wearisome for everything to revolve around a single character and make it seem like the Caedra show. On the other hand, if you don't like one character being the center of attention, either be more active with your own so that the attention is divided, or come up with a plot for people to interact with, or do something during the downtimes between mod plots. I haven't noticed a lot of people doing other things that will affect the entire game.

I get what you're saying but that mentality doesn't always work when the playerbase would rather focus on one thing than another. I have made attempts to be more active with my own plots and ideas but those tend to fall through when more people gravitate towards something else instead. And FTW I've advertised my stuff on plurk, in the IC comms and CR memes and get barely any bites because... I don't know! What you say is nice advice in theory, but in practice it's plots like Caedra's that ends up overshadowing them.

In b4 "maybe ur plots just suck" because that is how I've been feeling already and it's shit like this that make me want to just drop.

aw dude that sucks. idk who you are but i'd love some other stuff to get involved with. i'll try to be on the lookout for this kind of thing in the future.

It sucks because I try to be active, but the threads/CR just get dropped. I try to start up a plot, but hardly anyone gets interested. It's very discouraging because the last plot I did (it was a few months ago) I put a lot of work into and was supposed to affect the game only for a small few people to bother with it, while stuff like the Caedra business gets all these individual posts and discussions about it. I did my best to get the word around about the plots I do without spamming everywhere but I guess it wasn't enough to turn heards. Sucks.

was it over the summer? the game was weirdly dead in the water from like may up until recently so that might've had something to do with it.

fwiw i think people are raving about the caedra thing because everyone wants their character to be the hero. i remember back when caedra first joined and did the big player plot, it got mobbed by the tolkein elves and some other people and it turned into a huge pissing contest. so yeah, the caedra stuff gets popular, but 90% of what people end up doing with it is boring and circlejerky.

Actually it happened a little before summer, so I don't know what the deal is, but I did notice the game got really slow and quiet for a while after the setting change.

You're probably right and that's what I find frustrating about when those kinds of characters try to do villain things, because it DOES tend to dissolve into pissing contests between players over who gets to take out the Big Bad, but it doesn't really work out when the villain is a player character and thus harder to write around without making them unplayable. I know there are characters who would want to take action but the fact that it's not an NPC, you can't just vanquish them and be done for a few months. I've been trying to have my characters ignore the entire plot but when people keep making posts about it, it gets harder to justify.

i've been having a hard time avoiding that stuff as well and only just started looking into this bs for the express sake of echoing other players' sentiments

we have a ton of characters in game who constantly want to self-sacrifice for crap like this when it's completely unnecessary

this is stupid, we all know it, can we stop jockeying for whoever gets to be The Big Damn Hero and collaborate more effectively?

It makes me glad that I play a character who isn't the hero type at all, since at least I can add something different to the pot besides all the do-gooders who are frothing at the mouth to take her out or whatever they seem to be plotting.

I don't play do-gooder types but it does get frustrating when my CR gets involved and I have to figure out reasons why my character isn't backing them or w/e. The problem with those wanting to "take her out" is like whats mentioned above, because she's a player character she is protected by a certain level of plot armor that prevents other characters from reacting appropriately without making anyone unplayable, so I'd rather just stay out of it. Makes it hard when so many treats the character like she's a big deal that warrants multiple posts.

i do play a do-gooder type but with so many people leaping on this, i'd rather keep my do-gooder closer to the sidelines than get them directly involved. I don't feel like hopping into the middle of a bigass clusterfuck, and that seems to be what this is turning into.

if this is the plot I think it is, i know that personally i avoided it because i had no CR with (and didn't want to get CR with) the character running it and the player often flaked on me in the past, so i didn't want to mess with it

even if it's not the same one i'm thinking of, just like you have reason to avoid this plot, other players probably had reasons to avoid yours. it doesn't necessarily mean anything terrible about you or your idea or that you shouldn't try again, just that it wasn't the right time/plot/character to do it with and people weren't engaged for whatever reason (whether that reason had to do with you or them)

there's some players planning to quietly defuse the caedra situation once she's off hiatus so here's hoping they can pull it off without starting another slew of network posts.

God I hope so. I don't think I can handle another round of ten network posts about the Caedra Show if it keeps up like this.

the whole thing is stupid anyway. like a lot of characters have been saying ic, freezing her was just poking the bear. i haven't even seen her doing anything much for the past few months, and now it's just a slew of characters jumping on the bandwagon to freak out and a few trying to be pragmatic about it.

i feel bad for the player more than anything. she's literally not around to do anything about what's happening and yet people are here bitching about things going on with her character anyway
