i hate how i feel so petty and jealous over other people who play the same character as me because they manage to snag ships so easily that i have to work so hard to get.

i'll have played the character for months, have great cross-canon cr, plenty of tags, have castmates to click with. but then i'll see this other person pick up the same character and suddenly everyone is flocking to suck their dick almost immediately and i'm wondering what i'm doing wrong that i can't get that kind of reaction.

i know i'm more reserved and conservative about my preferences and don't do all the wild dirty threads that a lot of the popular players seem to do. is that it? are my personal preferences and style that different to most everyone else in this hobby so that it's fine for gen but makes shipping harder?

i hate feeling like this because i know this makes me sound petty and irritable. i guess i just never understood why it's so much harder for me when i'm doing everything else right but just can't seem to attract the ships. which is such a stupid thing to be irritable about of all things. i should be happy to talk with others who like the character. but i get so jealous and i hate feeling this way because i know i shouldn't.

sorry, i really had to vent this out because there's no way i can admit this to anyone. just reading everything i just typed up makes me want to smack myself for being this petty, but it was kind of therapeutic. i don't let it affect how i interact with others because i honestly don't want to cause a stink or drama and i know what i feel is stupid. it is fun to share ideas and stories and it's not like i get nothing at all so i should happy for that. i don't consider my characterization better, either. but this is something i've seen happening for years and it just kind of hit hard i guess.

anon, i completely understand how you feel. it's petty, but you're honestly not alone. i'm glad you came to vent here because it feels good to know that i'm not the only one, too.

i can't help but to a little bit butt-blasted when i see someone playing the same character as me and getting multitudes of attention when i feel like i'm struggling to get any. if when we both post on a meme but they get all of the replies and i don't get any... it sucks!! and then i get angry with myself because my initial reaction is to tear them down in my mind, but that's not exactly healthy. i need to curb that and be more like you, apparently!

it sucks, don't know how anyone could say otherwise.

there are definitely a lot of players who aren't interested if you aren't interested in self-indulgent smut, but there's no sense being bitter about it because ultimately you wouldn't be happy anyway.

another thing to remember is a lot of people pick up a character while discussing it with friends, so other players are already waiting in the wings. it's different from meeting people while you're already playing a character, and makes it seem like they're effortlessly getting what took you months to earn because what took you months to earn was the ooc friendships they're starting already having.

ime people who get ships and threads instantaneously because of a crowd that flocks to whatever dick they're playing are also the same people who flake on all of those smut threads after about a week. so the grass only looks greener, anon, but give it a little time and it'll wither and die while yours is nicely fertilized.

honestly it's probably the smut if you have no problem with getting gen threads and cr.

many rpers who are heavily into ships are interested in smut to at least some degree. maybe they only want it after a really long buildup and only once in a while but they want it to at least be an option on the table. if you aren't interested in smut at all you're going to turn off a lot of people from wanting to ship with you even if you're the best and most consistent X on dreamwidth.

if you're vocal or judgmental about being anti-smut that can also turn people off from wanting to ship with you because they don't want to get judged for being interested in that even if they're ok with not playing it out with you.
