So I'm thinking of finally getting back into this after not playing since Cata.

Do servers still have reputations like back in the day? And if so, which do you think would be best for a casual returning player that will basically be relearning the game from scratch? I play both Horde and Alliance.

the only servers with reputations these days are the non-english speaking ones. you'll get insta-kicked from groups if you're from them. even the whole "lolol moonguard" thing has died down. there are no more pvp servers. most servers are horde dominant, i think the most recent surveys show a 2:1 overall horde to alliance ratio across all servers. it's closer to 10:1 for raiders, almost all serious raiding is hordeside these days, so if raiding is something you're interested in, keep that in mind. if it isn't, then literally any server is as good as another, cross-realm grouping can be done for everything but mythic raids

also, don't buy Battle for Azeroth yet. in blizzard's infinite wisdom, you have to do huge reputation grinds, including ones from Legion, to get access to the new races, and you get nothing else from it pre-110.
