i really don't think this is the issue. at all.

the sudden vehement push against these kinks didn't start with an incident of a rapist playing rape kink, they started with the rise of anti culture. the backlash virtually always resembles anti culture in rhetoric and started to come around well after tumblr became the main fandom hub and LJ had long been left behind (and as far as i know, ken was revealed to be a rapist when we were still on LJ). the excuse of people not labeling stuff doesn't hold up either because there are other kinks that have been sprung on people by surprise in large numbers--for instance cannibalism, which doesn't evoke anywhere near the same response as rape/incest/underage.

lmao no. i'll give credit that some anti culture has gotten into dwrp because it's gotten into all fandom discourse, but rape/incest/underage were always side-eye'd in DWRP well before that.

and a lot of it came down to them just being associated with shitty players, people not putting up warnings, getting pushy with their interests, etc. this shit still gets played out on smut memes and in the kink thread here on rpanons with very little backlash, too, so i really do think you're off the mark.

y'all acting like this stuff never gets rped in tyool 2018 but there's plenty of it and you don't need to look hard for it. however, you don't see threads on wg and rpa screeching about it 24-7, and the few times wank about such threads has been tried without anything actually off-base happening ooc, it's been met with lukewarm responses at best even on wg

most people also know how to label that shit and keep it to interested parties only, though, which makes it all the more jarring and memorable when less tactful players come along to try smearing their underage boners everywhere

you can get away with plenty in dwrp if you're actually upfront, polite, and mature about it

If you can't get anyone to write your rape/underage/incest with you on dreamwidth chances are that you suck at writing or are a pain in other ways without realizing it.

you can't play out rape, incest, or underage smut in most gen games without getting judged, but it's always been that way since even before the livejournal move. tons of people have played out all 3 in smut games, memes, and psls and have never gotten so much as a side-eye because:

1) they were smart and knew to only play out that stuff in appropriate venues
2) don't pressure people who aren't into it into playing it
3) don't sound like socially stunted creeps huffing over how hot half-naked 14 year olds or rape is 24/7 on their plurks or are otherwise off-putting ooc

the people who get wanked on in smut games for this but are normal ooc are generally people with grudgewankers who latch onto kinkshaming as a convenient excuse to stir up shit. don't assume that it's genuine pearlclutching when it's more likely a convenient vehicle for someone to vent their butthurt over getting turned down for a thread or jealousy over another character being more popular than theirs.

What irks me about underage is...people's need to play up the ages. When I do it, it's just two folks messing around, when the other party makes it specifically about how young/old the other party is I just kind of have to stop right the fuck there.

idk for me part of the appeal of underage is the age gap. i just like the contrast between the two and i like it when it’s pointed out between the characters.

yeah ages are kind of the whole point of agegap at least

now, if it's between two underage but same-aged people, ayrt and anon above have good points, since there's no disparity that needs emphasizing for that

there's a difference between characters having an age gap and stuff like infantilization, purity kink, and daddy kink though

i ship some characters with pretty wide gaps but i hate anything with an incestual vibe or narrative that sounds like humbert humbert waxing poetic about naive virginal nymphettes

Underage at least is something that has had a vehement push against it for longer than that. That came with far more strict enforcement of laws regarding child porn and people being paranoid that writing porn involving an underage character could get them arrested and labeled as a sex offender.

Even on LJ people had serious issues with smutting with underage characters, which is why most sex games tended to require underage characters be aged up. People would also freak out if they found out they played smut with someone under 18.

smut games only *recently* loosened up on character age restrictions. if anything we're less strict about underage characters in smut than we used to be, at least in actual games.
