Not necessarily just because of RP but because everyone was going crazy for it and... it's fine? Like I knew it was a kid's show and I like a lot of kid's shows but nothing outside of Allura really grabbed me about it. I thought for all the hype it would have something unique or really high quality. It's enjoyable but I don't understand how it amassed such an insane fandom.

presenting characters with okay characterizations who have more adult themes (ptsd trauma, for example) and have to deal with complicated emotional moments in a way that's more realistic than [luke skywalker NOOOO] @ every bad thing in their life

it only really spiraled out of control because it is currently bringing 2 white boys and 2 brown boys who are shippable to the table

"antis" are also probably a part of why it's so fucking huge, considering that hurling around anon hate tends to make people even more obsessed with things and more willing to dig into the trench (fancy that)

it's not a bad show and there's a lot of subtext and intelligent writing here, but most of the people who are overinvested in the fandom are too busy claiming keith and lance want to fuck and making every character point about their OTP to make me actually believe they appreciate the writing and aren't too busy essentially being fujoshi lmfao
