that's it for me, at least. they scratch two different itches for me, the same way gen and shipping or gen and smut do.

it's still stupid to get offended by the connection. things being related doesn't mean they're the exact same thing.

no one's offended by the connection. they're saying that for the purpose of categories on backerstreet, there are three separate categories, of which memes are usually evenly balanced on. so there's 19 smut/shipping and 9 gen? seems skewed until you separate the two smushed into one category and work it as 10 shipping, 9 smut, and 9 gen. then it's more even.

That's not the point, though, because we're talking about this in the context of the need for a gen-oriented community. So in that context, putting ship/smut together naturally makes sense.

no. it was taken as a consensus of gen being swamped out of bs. and in relation to it being ONE OF THREE categories, which is a fucking thing that you don't get to just sweep under the carpet to make your point, gen is not being swamped out. gen is evenly on par with the other TWO categories of the comm. it may feel like it's being swamped if you have no interest in shipping or smut, but it's on an even playing field with the amount of categories in it, which are gen, ship, smut. that's how it's always been categorized. you don't get to change it because you're making a point that isn't.

and from what i saw of the conversation, there were mentions of putting shipping (at least) memes in the 'new gen comm', so maybe you all want to talk among yourselves as to what you expect from this. you can't smoosh part of a category in the 'no' section, then say 'well, that part of the no is okay, but only that part... which isn't actually part of that other dirtier part'. almost like it's its own category.

tlh is actually the 'smut' comm, but i suppose if you're only in it for gen and fluffy cuddles, bs seems more smutty. still. it wouldn't be a gen only comm. so why put ship/smut together when it's not being treated the same in the suggestion?

Nobody said anything about ship memes being in the no category. Literally no one said that. We're not here to argue which meme category is better. We're not saying shipping or smut is the root of all evil or dirty, that's some projecting you've got going on. We're here because we're hoping for a more gen-friendly community, because BS has a lot of ship and smut memes posted and some of us would like something different. That's it.

I really don't know what you all are even arguing for. Nothing's going to change on BS. A new comm with more gen leanings will not murder BS or the existence of ship/smut memes. If you don't like a comm with less ship/smut, simply stick to BS.

For the record, I think it's fine that BS is mostly ship/smut, if that's what people want to play. I'd just like a sandbox for more of things I want to play. (And will be going to BS when I feel like playing ships.)

hey, genius? bs is plenty gen friendly to the point where it's evenly posted with shipping AND smut memes. the memes are there. people just don't post in them as frequently as they do the others. implying that bs isn't gen friendly is essentially you calling it a dirty place. it's not. gen just isn't that prevalent outside of games atm.

as i've said multiple times during this thread, make the comm. i hope op does. i've even given pretty decent advice to facilitate that. but this whole sub argument is because someone lumped two categories together to make the numbers seem worse than they were to 'prove a point'. the point you really want to make is that you want more gen, not evenly ratioed gen. you're being a dick about it, btw.

The original numbers were to refute the idea that BS is 'mostly gen', according to the comment above, so either way it's a pointless argument. I mostly agree with your other points (besides the weird insistence that anyone who lumps ship/smut together must find them dirty), so I don't really know why we're apparently arguing. I guess if discussing meme categories makes me a dick then sure.

if you attribute being laid and sexual satisfaction to enjoying shipping/smut, then you likely cross the ic/ooc boundaries a lot. some people can manage not to do that. my rl sexual status has no effect on what i play online. funny how that works, isn't it?
