Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

i don't like talking to people in general. i'd rather stick to plurk, which i was reluctant to join anyway. if people i'm rping with want to talk to me, they can do it via pm or plurk (and don't say they can't pm because fuck you, they can)

i'm anti-group chat. it's too distracting, chaotic, and has never focused on anything useful the two games i tried it in. it's either ooc chatter about shit i give no fucks about or one cast/clique refusing to let anyone else try to focus on things that aren't about them. thank you, but no.

oh, and if you don't notice that one cast/clique is dominating the group chat, you're probably part of that group.

That's the thing, though, cliques exist with or without group chats. They exist on plurk too. Group chats are definitely not for everyone, and there are times I prefer private IMs for different reasons, but I miss the sense of community. Also, not having people spam me with plurk invites the moment I join a game only to drop me immediately the second I leave (which is their right, sure, but it gets tiring after a while).

Basically, I wish that we could have both group chats and plurk, and let people choose what they prefer. Instead, we've ended up with a culture that has almost no journal communities, very few group chats, and everyone keeping to themselves on plurk. The only places for large groups are anoncomms. It's not a great environment.

no one said they didn't. but it's a hell of a lot harder to ignore a clique when they take over a single group chat than it is in a game where you can go off and play by yourself. just like in plurk, if you see one group rubbing their asses all over a mod/game plurk with in clique chatter and someone asking a legitimate question gets passed over because lmao lolz cats farts haha w/e, it makes you not want to bother looking in mod/game plurks. if your game chat has a vocal group and you want to ask a question or talk to another party in there about something and your conversation gets lost in four+ people talking over you about private stuff, there's no point to being involved.

some people like them, some don't. but if you don't like them, being told to go to skype or discord to plot in a game on dw is not a valid option.

two chats? didnt do it long enough tbh, been doing this for years and years. i come across the occasional circlejerk group but most of them are just fine.

that being said, i didnt do group chats with journal rpers, i come from forums

i said two games, not two chats. two of the games i was in had group chats and after a month or two in each one, i opted not to bother. and from what i've heard of other people in other similar chats, it's a common problem when you're not part of the clique/cast that dominates a group. usually involving a mod, but sometimes the mods aren't even in them and one big friend group will just overrun it.

if you didn't encounter that, good for you, but it's likely that you may have been part of the problem. just like the sws group, it's easy to overlook that you're part of the problem when you're not the one with the issue.
