rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. and that's why i personally would prefer to go with post-mage storms. it opens up such a wider possibility and lets the mods make up where they want to go that hasn't been covered by the books. if you go pre-storms, you're locked into the timeline wherever you choose to start. it can be both exciting for book readers to know what's coming or boring, depending on preference. if it's based on valdemar, there's no reason to replay what's already been done by the 'main characters'. that's my main reason for wanting a more up to date timeline/post mage storms setting, the diversity/range of side characters/npcs being a lovely secondary. plus having a specialized mage class that might work their way up/gain mod approval to have a herald mage (for example) be taught adept magic by the tayledras could make for interesting divergences, along with just fun with magic in general.

i think the mod would have to come up with a good rule set over what abilities can be had/what the limits are/if they can be worked around or boosted with mod approval if a good reason is given. there's so much potential there and i'd love to see this worked up.

people started flopping around in their own piss at the thought of more than one tfln a week or lots of options for brainless ship/pwp fodder, so now bakerstreet has a million idiotic rules that did nothing to raise the comm's overall quality. you can still vomit out three pages of blank toplevels for your samey LA canon ocs, but evidently god will reach through the clouds to smite us all if we don't go out of our way to make sure there are gen memes.

it's gotten so regimented and annoying. just let people shit out rainbow cupcakes or breeder stalls and put up a new tfln when it hits captcha and stop confusing precious coding with actual good ideas.

I really miss the days of prompt fills. Why don't we have that anymore?

I hope this means he has the clout to make the games he's had in his head all this time.

this stupid rp au has so many sub-aus and branches and branches within branches it's ridiculous.

the specific two mentioned are known wanky bitches, but they dropped early in this fiasco so it feels like a reach.

Looks like everyone wants it, the problem is how to get it up and running.

from personal experience, it's nice when people reinforce that they're still eager to play with me every so often. it becomes overwhelming when they bring up their character or our cr at every opportunity, or invent opportunities in unrelated discussions. and it's cringeworthy to see it happen to other people.

I think a problem with this grps was the idea of even using socks at all because it was basically at cross-purposes with what we actually need

if we want to bring discussion back from plurk then there needs to be a comm where people post fully logged in with their personal journals or rp character journals so it's unanon and people can actually make friends

in the old days when rps was a thing people basically did that and it worked fine; i made a number of rp friends via that route

i also think it might make more sense to have general fandom discussion comms instead of trying to segregate by fandom, the population of rpers who would post out of the gate is not high enough to support active single fandom comms, especially for fandoms that are no longer currently running but still have a lot of people playing from them

i think a general fandom comm would be a good start. it's testing the waters, so to speak, and when/if one fandom starts to grow to the point they're taking over a post, then maybe that fandom can branch off into a comm of its own.

"general fandom" would be like doing a grps for ffa. people wouldn't go for it when they have safe, comfortable anonymity a click away.

It depends. You could make it work if you gathered enough momentum and offered good resources or other goodies that couldn't be found elsewhere, even if it was just a very organized list of Tumblr posts per fandom. (That's actually an idea, we could at least start Fandom posting by archiving the zillions of master lists scattered all over Tumblr). You'd need a dedicated mod or mods, and those mods would probably have to be unanon. Lead by example and all.

On top of that, you'd need to get people posting, which means advertising, cajoling your friends, and providing things to post about. I don't know if generic 'fandom discussion' would cut it. So, that's the thing: I think it could work, but only with a lot of effort and solid modship.

i have little interest in instant messaging anymore and prefer plurk or just text messages with close friends, tbh

I know there has been talk for wanting a new sws instead of relying on a scheduled meme. I got a comm made, but I'd like an extra mod or two and suggestions on what people want.
