rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

1. I think the comm was called goodrperssock, and even if people were under socks it seemed like discussion was both candid and helpful. It also had pretty active fandom discussion. I also remember earlier attempts to make comms for DWRP mods to help each other, which I feel is still a good idea even if I'm not sure how to implement it now. There's still, surprisingly, a lot of newbie mods in DWRP and I feel like we'd have better games if they could get resources and advice from longtime mods.

2. Adding that in terms of new RP comms, I'd like to see more in the vein of

1prompt. Given the mess on BS I think a move back towards completely moderated comms would be helpful.

3. GRPS seems to have just died out because the mod stopped updating, so the key is just reliable comm mods. Also, I liked that it had resources for moving between tumblr and DWRP, resources for general newbies to DWRP (because let's face it, we're old and crotchety with a million weird rules), and so on. I'm not sure what happened to the mod resources comm, as I wasn't modding then and it was locked. It seems like an idea that would need some work because we have so many anon mods these days. I wonder if we could make a Discord chat or something...

I feel like more comms these days need to advertise and maintain a presence on plurk since that's the main mode of RP communication now, too. This includes meme comms and fandom comms.

I really liked goodrperssock but I had no idea the mods tried to get the comm running again on November. Did they advertise it anywhere?

I didn't hear anything either. November was also bad timing on their part (NaNo).

i was one of the original mods and the one who started it up did it solo without telling the others previously involved which probably didn't help either

I didn't know that had happened! For the record, if you guys ever revived the comm I'd enjoy having it around again. It's not ideal for solving our problem with anon culture, but it was a good start.

I think a problem with this grps was the idea of even using socks at all because it was basically at cross-purposes with what we actually need

if we want to bring discussion back from plurk then there needs to be a comm where people post fully logged in with their personal journals or rp character journals so it's unanon and people can actually make friends

in the old days when rps was a thing people basically did that and it worked fine; i made a number of rp friends via that route

i also think it might make more sense to have general fandom discussion comms instead of trying to segregate by fandom, the population of rpers who would post out of the gate is not high enough to support active single fandom comms, especially for fandoms that are no longer currently running but still have a lot of people playing from them

i think a general fandom comm would be a good start. it's testing the waters, so to speak, and when/if one fandom starts to grow to the point they're taking over a post, then maybe that fandom can branch off into a comm of its own.

"general fandom" would be like doing a grps for ffa. people wouldn't go for it when they have safe, comfortable anonymity a click away.

It depends. You could make it work if you gathered enough momentum and offered good resources or other goodies that couldn't be found elsewhere, even if it was just a very organized list of Tumblr posts per fandom. (That's actually an idea, we could at least start Fandom posting by archiving the zillions of master lists scattered all over Tumblr). You'd need a dedicated mod or mods, and those mods would probably have to be unanon. Lead by example and all.

On top of that, you'd need to get people posting, which means advertising, cajoling your friends, and providing things to post about. I don't know if generic 'fandom discussion' would cut it. So, that's the thing: I think it could work, but only with a lot of effort and solid modship.

I know there has been talk for wanting a new sws instead of relying on a scheduled meme. I got a comm made, but I'd like an extra mod or two and suggestions on what people want.
