i can read just fine.

you're still insisting ship/smut cr is the only cr worthwhile. even in a smut game. that's still a stupid thing to say, and it still isn't true. if this is the attitude you have, you're damn right you're not welcome in the game.

ayrt

(Anonymous) 2017-03-17 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
no, i'm insisting that shipping/smut cr is the main reason why people join a shipping/smut game over a regular game. they join in the hopes, m or f, to play out shippy/smutty stuff. that's the draw of the game. if you honestly think that someone who joins a shippy/smutty game is going to be content with mountains of regular cr and no shippy/smut cr, then you're sadly mistaken. it'd be like joining a horror game and having it be suddenly all fluff all the time. that's not what i signed up for. gen cr is great and everyone's usually happy to have it, but that's not the only cr someone wants in a smut game. they join to play out smut.

if you were standing by a box with puppies in it with a sign that said 'free puppies' and someone came up and wanted a puppy and you gave them a cat or a tree frog or a tarantula instead... like, hey, that's great. you gave them a pet. they should be satisfied to get anything, right? no, man. they wanted a puppy. that's what they stopped for.

Re: ANNOYING SUGGESTIONS YOU HATE GETTING FROM PEOPLE

(Anonymous) 2017-03-17 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
honestly, the part that annoys me the most is that often, it isn't that the suggestions are bad. if you're depressed, then yes, exercise, eating better, going outside, tidying your living space, and yes, even smiling more* can seriously help.

but all of that ignores the core problem of depression, which is a lack of motivation to do just about anything, combined with all sorts of feelings of worthlessness, sadness, and so on and so forth. and the people who so helpfully suggest these things just often don't consider that, or don't see how it's a problem that can actually keep someone from doing what they consider a 'simple' thing.

* smiling more fosters brief positive social interactions, even with shop assistants or other strangers, and while that's not therapy or medication, it can (at least temporarily) lift a person's spirit – obviously, it's not an instant cure for depression

Re: ayrt

you can say "NO THIS IS WHAT I'M SAYING" all you want, but this is all predicated on the assumption that if people tag female characters on a tdm that they don't want to immediately ship/smut with, that female character will never have the chance for ship/smut cr once in the game. no one in this thread, for that matter, mentioned anything about only offering female characters showing up on a tdm gen cr. the suggestion was just "don't use your desire to fuck them as your only measure for how welcoming you are towards characters in the tdm".

once again, you're beyond help if you can't look at that though process and see how stupid it is.

and you can continue to try to tell me what i'm saying when that's not it all you want. doesn't make it true.

if you want to be more welcoming to female characters, that's great. power to you. if you think that throwing everyone in the game at them on a tdm to seem more welcoming is the way to go, it isn't. not unless any of you actually have a semi-desire to ship with them. otherwise, all you're doing is saying 'see, see, see how many people you can play with?' and not offering them the actual reason they want to join the game.

more cr on a tdm =/= smut cr in game. flinging gen cr at them on a meme isn't the way to go to lure in female characters if that's what you want. maybe try to enable people who want to smut with that character. maybe look around at your in game cr and see who'd be willing to ship with that character. don't throw them a bone and then get all snotty when they want actual meat instead of scraps.

be the change, anon. don't sit here and get all pissy because someone's pointing out flaws in your 'welcoming' behavior.

So I've been looking at this game with a couple of m/f-focused female characters.

One is a 14 or 15-year-old animu that I'd age up to 15 or 16
another is a WRPG character in her early 30s.

Who's more likely to see action?

Edgar Allen Poe's Murder Mystery Dinner Party. the gist is that ten or so famous authors get together to have a dinner party, but someone keeps killing them off one by one. It's downright hilarious and features a lot of really good web series actors (some people from LBD, some people from Starkid). It's also fairly short compared to other series so you can totally binge it over a weekend--I think the total running time is less than 3 hours.

Felicia Day from Dr. Horrible did a web series called The Guild about a bunch of people who are addicted to a world of warcraft style game. I've only watched a few episodes of it, but what I have watch I've liked.

I also second Lizzie Bennet Diaries. if Pride and Prejudice isn't your jam, there's a loooooot of youtube adaptations of public domain literature out there. The same production group that did Lizzie Bennet Diaries also did Emma Approved (haven't watched yet) and Frankenstein MD (which was good but suffered from some maaaajor pacing problems). I've also heard good things about Carmilla & The New Adventures of Peter and Wendy but haven't watched either.

SA And I could probably age the anime up further if that'd be an issue but not too much. I need to check and see if she's popped up in any post-canon supplementary stuff.

"be the change" fuck you, i'm going to tag whoever i want for whatever reasons i want. if you don't want my gen cr, fuck off, you ungrateful, entitled baby.

Re: ayrt

and there we have it, ladies and gentlemen. put up with the scraps of what i give you and don't aim higher or else you're an entitled shit for wanting what a game promotes.

have fun being a snob. and keep scratching your head over why there's so few female characters.

Re: ayrt

in your mind, gen cr = scraps, and that's an incredibly shitty way to treat your fellow behaviors. fuck off, the only snob here is you.

anon below with chronic illnesses here.

yeah, the worst thing about simple advice is that people think that "curing" depression/arthritis/whatever is JUST! THAT!! SIMPLE!!! big pharma is lying to you so they can sell you their drugs, yadda yadda yadda. and like i said below, they seem to think chronic illnesses are no big deal, like depression is just being sad because somebody took the last piece of pizza and you get over it in 20 minutes because pizza's not that big of a deal.

i've tried yoga, it doesn't really help and it hurts because of the allodynia from fibromyalgia. i walk a dog, it just tires me out and makes me wish i should've stayed home. i don't want to try acupuncture, PAIN is a big part of my fibromyalgia and i'm afraid of needles, it sounds very painful. my health programs altogether contribute to my depression, and more, it's not like i'm taking artificial happiness pills because i'm too lazy to smile.

even if i've done it everyday for weeks, i'm just "not doing it right", "i didn't do it long enough", or "i don't care enough about getting better." what the fuck do you (general you) know? you don't have depression or fibromyalgia or any of this bullshit, or a medical degree, fuck off with your dr. google shit. i try to explain to some of these people about what i'm going through but it just goes in one ear and out the other, and i hate it.

(sorry if i come off as angry, i'm angry at the people with suggestions, not you.)

in a gen game, all cr is valued. in a shippy/smut game, if you honestly think that someone puts gen cr on the same level as what they joined the fucking game for and should just be honored that sempai gave them any notice whatsoever, you're the problem.

again, enjoy your sausagefest. if i hear you wondering where all the ladies at, i will chortle fatly into my mountain dew.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-18 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
That sucks bro. I suffer from Lupus, Rhumetoid Arthritis, anxiety, and on and off depression with some other odds and ends tossed in there. The latter two definitely symptoms of the first two. While I did lose weight to ease some of the pressure on my joints and just because I wanted to, the amount of "you need to eat clean, non processed, organic foods because it'll help" or "do yoga every day to stretch out your joints" or "you sit around too much".... god. Now it all just infuriates me.

Worst of it is that the medication I take suppresses my immune system, so I'm always getting sick, and because I'm always getting sick I keep getting told to take vitamins and work out more to build up my immune system. Bitch, which part of THIS SUPPRESSES MY IMMUNE SYSTEM do you not understand, it's the whole problem!

Re: BAD/"BAD" COSPLAY

(Anonymous) 2017-03-18 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like this has gotten worse with the rise of cosplay-interest in the social media sphere, because they're the ones touting only sexy 20-something white girls as "good" cosplay and everyone outside that demographic is doing it wrong, despite the fact that most of us who've been doing it for longer than the past 5 years knows better.

I mean there's always been hate blogs and nasty comments on photo sites but the dedicated blogs seem to be much more a recent thing compared to 10 years ago.

Book rec: this particular theme is V.E. Schwab's jam. "Vicious" in particular is about a supervillain protagonist who's out for revenge against the superhero antagonist who destroyed his life, and it turns out that "villain" and "hero" are terms that, shall we say, imperfectly describe the reality of their interaction.

Her A Darker Shade of Magic series has a lot of moral ambiguity about who exactly is 'good' and 'bad' among the protagonists and antagonists.

You may also enjoy the Gentleman Bastard books by Scott Lynch - the protagonist is a shameless con man who's totally enthusiastic about stealing the rich blind for the fun of it. He's more "charming rogue" than straight-up "villain," but you could definitely play him as a villainous/antagonistic/amoral presence with strong opportunities for positive CR in a game.

i actually have a few relatives with rheumatoid arthritis but they think i'm just making shit up for free ssi bux. i've done a few blood tests for it over the years but i don't seem to have... whatever they check for, idr what.

shit, i forgot about the "eat non-processed organic foods" suggestions. i only remembered the gluten free because it's such an annoying fucking fad. my hours got cut after the holidays, guys, how do you expect me to afford all of this expensive shit? are you donating to my hypothetical patreon? no? okay, fuck off then.

it's really fucking annoying when people try to find a way to blame me for my health problems too. i seemed to have mild symptoms of fibro since my junior year of high school but then it turned into full-blown fibro after a very stressful time in my life. how the fuck is that my fault? i developed asthma after a relative misused the fuck out of pesticides. how the fuck is that my fault? i've always had insomnia, even if i go months without drinking soda, avoid screens for a few hours before bed, or try to fall asleep at the same time everyday. how the fuck is that my fault?

i also get to deal with the catch-22 of "stop talking about your health problems, you're making me depressed!" and "how am i supposed to know you're sick if you don't say anything?" you shut me down and call me a crybaby every fucking time i say i'm in too much pain to do something, what do you expect?!

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2017-03-18 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
the attitude here is all on you. you're the one thinking gen cr are scraps. you're the one using the hyperbole of "should just be honored that sempai gave them any notice whatsoever". you're the one equating getting gen cr with getting ignored completely. you're the one making the assumption that gen cr can never develop into something more. you're the one saying if cr's not all in from the get-go, you're time is being wasted.

you are the one saying this shit, no one else. you've projected a whole ton of sentiment onto the idea of tagging female characters that come to our TDM regardless if we're immediately interested in having our characters sleeping together or not, since that should never be your sole motivation for tagging anyone regardless of this being a smut game, so they know the game isn't shutting out female characters. all you.

you're the one with issues to work out.
