thanks to you and the above anon for the input! I might give it a go. mostly I'm just looking for something slow to tide me over while my schedule's too hectic for faster games, so I won't lose anything to take a chance here.

I've had attacks come out of nowhere and just one-hit me so I feel like I have to keep the buffs up in order to not get killed by an arrow or an enemy out of nowhere, so I feel like I'm never safe.

I'm not rushing in and buttonmashing. I just put my shield up and try to fight like I would in any other Zelda game, but I would die immediately because another enemy flanked me or hit me with an arrow or hit me with a bigger weapon I can't block for some reason.

souls fan here, never played botw but i was kind of amazed you compared a nintendo game to dark souls so i googled.

yeah, you're not supposed to fight this lynel thing. you are able to apparently jump on his head when he charges you and maybe get some hits off, but it becomes harder to do this repeatedly. the game tells you to go around him. you trying to kill it is not intended, so you can TRY, but you're not MEANT to.

it's not about gitting gud or memorizing his patterns or using strategy or anything like in souls. you are supposed to fucking avoid him. this ain't rocket surgery. like i said i don't even play or know shit about the game, i just used google, and i'm assuming the game explicitly tells you this. so no, it's not 'bullshit and unfair'. you're trying to play as it was not intended to be played and purposely making it impossible on yourself.
