Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

I have no clue what either of those are referring to.

Stop being so enraged that you got snubbed for M/F once.

... why are you so intent on making them try something they don't want to? they'd like to use a game specific tdm to see if their char fits into that setting. they're not going to get that in another tdm.

and tbh, i'm tired of 'just play in tdms~ no one cares!' as a valid suggestion. with everyone bawing over 'hdu steal my spot' because of rubbing their butt on a tdm, this sends a lot of misleading and conflicting signals to people that are conflict avoiders. stop suggesting running around playing in tdms you have no intention of apping into.

Are you okay?

But I thought "you don't need the heart containers"?

And I have been going to shrines but only to upgrade stamina.

oh I don't need the heart containers

but it's very obvious that *you* do

But I didn't need them before because the the revious games weren't scaled to be unfair.

This game isn't scaled to be unfair.

You just suck and are uncreative.

No I'm not, I'm tring to do exactly what the game tells me and still die. They tell me to fight the Lynel and I've died several hundred times at this point.

Sam Wilson becoming Captain America and Riri Williams becoming Iron Man, I'm guessing. IDK what the fuck Riri and Moon Girl have in common other than being black, though.

They tell you not to fight the lynel multiple times and the second you get up the mountain they give you a cutscene showing you its better to fucking hid

how many of you rp the same character at different games? are there any tips and tricks that you have for keeping the versions distinct?

I'm thinking of apping a character I already play in game A to a different game B. the settings are different enough & I'm thinking of choosing different canon points, but this would be my first time playing the same character at two games and I don't really know if there are any obvious tips for doing that which I just don't know about

"This game is too hard for me."

Anons: Well, here are these tools available in the game that will solve most of the problems you're having.

"But I didn't have to in the previous Zelda games!"

Anon, whether or not a previous Zelda made you do X thing is irrelevant. You're playing BotW, not Wind Waker.

Both BotW and Wind Waker are balanced differently from each other because both games have different mechanics. Wind Waker's mechanics are not the exact same as BotW.

BotW isn't supposed to be insanely hard because Nintendo designed it in a way so the game can still be accessible by children while still making enjoyable for adults. If you're having difficulties with BotW then that's because you're refusing to learn the game's mechanics and complaining why the game won't magically turn into Wind Waker or some other Zelda game.

My advice? Stop playing BotW because you're clearly not enjoying it. There's more Switch games coming out like No More Heroes and Fire Emblem so just wait for those.

i'm still not convinced you played the game because you keep going on about this need to keep the buffs active 100% of the time. there are significant swaths of time where there's no fighting, and most battles shouldn't be taking you so long that you burn out of your entire inventory of food.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-27 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
i've done this a few times. it's usually easier for me right off the bat if one game has powers nerfed, but that isn't something you can necessarily choose if the games both allow powers or your character doesn't have one. that said, a difference in setting can usually help a lot in a similar regard.

my advice would be primarily:

1. make an effort interact with different canons in both games. it's easier to distinguish between two games when your muse meets totally different people in both. in the same vein, if at all possible, avoid playing off of the same character in both games if they both have that character [i.e. if you have cr with thor in game 1, you may struggle with balancing cr with game 2's thor]. i find it one of the quickest ways to confuse myself wrt what my muse knows about another pc's history/canon.

2. make private posts on your journal/google docs/notepad/whatever indicating your EXACT canon point, worldstate if it can differ, and any other telling details about your muse's entry point for BOTH games. this has helped me remember differing aspects in my muse's history. if you want, add important in-game events to this list as you go.

3. if you don't do a thread tracker, start. that way if you forget events, threads, things you've already covered, things you have or haven't found out about other canon worlds/characters, you can always reference the exact threads.

like i said, some of this might not even be relevant depending on the character and the games, but i hope it helps or gives you some ideas.

uh, my "goal" is to see if my character will mesh with the setting. i don't need someone seriously interested in the game to know if that's working for me tbh. that's a weird downer question.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-27 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
my least favorite is "they're done badly in canon" - so do better, because god knows y'all can make up a backstory's worth of headcanon for a two second shot of a dude's soulful gaze

but is never posting a toplevel/open post considered cliquey now? i really dislike them as i kinda get performance anxiety and prefer tagging out to others instead. has nothing to do with friends.

but everyone is going on about this beign the "perfect Zelda game" when my own experiences show this to be blatantly false since it's so unfair compared to the previous ones!

turning Zelda into fucking dark souls shouldn't mean it's perfect.

Well, it's not like everyone knows your reasons for not posting a top level/open post. So without knowing why you do this, all people know is that you never give new people an opportunity to tag them and only writes prompts for their friends.

I think it's fair to do that, but I think it's fair for people to consider you cliquey for doing so unless you counterbalance it by actively reaching out on plotting memes or whatever.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-27 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
yep. distancing myself from stagnant relationships/characters and getting a fresh start was refreshing. my closest partners (people i always clicked with in rp and had good rapport with ooc) knew where i went so nothing lost, only a breath of fresh air gained.

Sidenote: You don't have to actually complete them to use them as waypoints, you just have to open them. I've done this with a few of the "Major Test of Strength" ones...I'm not to the point where I'm ready for dealing with that yet so at least I can fast-travel straight back to them when I am!

(Anonymous) 2017-03-27 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
Buh.

I see you say 100% uptimes a lot.

Are you seriously trying to keep like a defense boost or whatever ready and going ALL THE TIME no matter where you are? Because that's definitely a good way to run out of food quick.

To be honest...as long as you're looking around and keeping an eye out for what's ahead of you, you can usually see (or hear) enemies coming before they're on top of you. That should be plenty of time to jump into the menu and down some food or whatever.

But even then, I don't think it should be necessary for every fight even if you don't have a lot of hearts/upgrades. Like other people have said, you do have to approach fights differently. You can't just run in and buttonmash (which I've been known to do in older Zelda games and which stood me in pretty good stead). You have to actually use some form of strategy.
