I'm not saying that at all.

I'm saying heart collecting wasn't something you needed to do before, because the amount of damage enemies did was more forgiving.

I don't bother with heart pieces not of of a self-imposed challenge, but solely so I can play through the story wihout having to do busywork and sidequests.

the food shit is still way harder than just carrying fairies was, in previous Zelda games you really didn't need to think about self healing and stuff unless for some reason you liked potions better than fairies (like if you WERE an edgelord looking for a challenge and thought fairies were a scrub's crutch) or you specifically needed magic potions. (and even them that wasn't really a concern unless it was a very magic intensive dungeon where you needed the extra magic meter.)

BoTW instead forces you to use this food and consant be on top of using the correct food all the time, and food buffs and armor made this a game mostly about numbers akin to Dark Souls, where it seems like unless your "stats" are high enough (hearts, defense, etc.) you will do nothing but die constantly.

It is almost exactly like Dark Souls in terms of needing stats to have adequate ability to do anything.

stop.

stooooooooop.

go take the game back and play something else. botw is not the game for you, and your broken record arguments are going to get you nothing but more mockery around here.

people beat dark souls at level 1 using shit gear all the time.

git gud, scrub.

but you used to not need to micromanage food and stats all the time.

enemies in previous Zelda games were more forgiving with their damage output so you weren't forced to hunt for heart pieces if you didn't want to distract from progressing. And instead of constantly having to cook the right food, use the right food, collect the right ingredients, and constantly heal and ea the exact right food at the right moments to have enough "stats" to not die, you jsut might have to carry a few faeries. And even then the faerie insurance wasn't needed until you made SEVERAL mistaked, not fucking one.

Take for example, being at 3 hearts doing the first dungeon in Wind Waker. You'll probably only have about 1 bottle at that point, so you have 3 hearts and one bottle's worth of faerie insurance. with maybe one more faerie avalable as a refill right before the boss. enemies in the dungeon only hit about hard enough you'll only use that first faerie if you allow yourself to be hit 3 or maybe more times depending on the enemy. Even that first boss probably only takes off 1 or 1 and a half heart a hit.

BoTW however had basic enemies outside of dungeons that easily do 3-4 hearts worth of damage a swing if your defense value isn't over some arbitrary number. It's incredibly unforgiving, unless you use all these convoluted "tools" to "prepare". "using the tools that you're given" is the usual excuse churned out by souls neckbeards when people complain that Dark Souls is too unforgiving. "you spent your souls wrong" "you didn't upgrade your weapon enough" "you're using a shit weapon" "your poise is too low" "you don't have enough stamina to block/dodge" "you didn't put enough points into your HP" what you all are saying is the same shit souls git gudders say. Just under the guise of a different game.

"the food shit is still way harder than just carrying fairies was"

are you a troll? seriously? between thinking a preference for potions over fairies is being an edgelord (some people just find using potions easier/comes more naturally to them) and the fact that in botw food is practically thrown at you in this game (they're significantly more common than fairies were in any zelda game), i'm starting to think you haven't actually played the damn game.

how fucking stupid are you that the dead simple food system in breath of the wild is anything remotely approaching dark souls elitists levels of aspergers?

the problem isn't the game. it's you.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2017-03-25 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
it's not unforgiving, it's just different. maybe don't build a persecution complex over shit like this.

Re: ayrt

hey here's an idea.

if you're fighting enemies that are too hard for you, go fight something else.

you're trying to play this game like it's wind waker. it's not wind waker. and you complaining "it's too haaaaaaaaard" when you're actively refusing to do any of the things the game is handing you to make it easier just makes you look like a giant baby.

I'm not a troll and I I have been playing the game.

The thing about faeries on older Zelda games is there were easy to find, reliable places to bottle your faeries and unlike potions (and definitely unlike the stupid convoluted food system) you didn't need to actually do any more work than have the faeries on you.

Where the food? For one thing you have to have the RIGHT food that boosts the right stats that allow you to not be one shot, and you have to eat some of that food just o heal too, and since you're boh using food to stat buff to get your stats up to the point where you have enough numbers to not be one-hit, you also have to eat even some of the same food to heal, but the thing is, you're gonna run out of food eventually. enemies do enough damage that you tear through your food, or you'll go hrough it just to have 100 percent uptime on the defense buffs or hear buffs that prevent oneshots, you're gonna run out, and when you run out of the specific food you need, you need to look for the appropriate ingredients.

but instead of just going to safe areas where i's easy to find faeries, where there is almost never any danger, in BoTw if you run out of the food you need to stand a chance, not only do you need to go to dangerous areas tog ether the right ingredients (in particular for the all important hearty and defense food that prevents oneshots, where usually have monsters who can easily one-shot you if you don't have food ready hat hpose ingredients MAKE, but you also then have to survive the trip to a cooking put past more monsters that can one-hit you without your food, and get to a pot.... and hope it doesn't start to rain.

See how much of a big pain in the ass is is to keep stoked up on this shit and always saying on top of food buff uptime to avoid being onehit? It's virtually no different than wasing the same amount of time looking for spirit orbs and invesing in hearts directly so you have enough core stats to not die because they enemies hit way too fucking hard because Nintendo followed the From Software school of enemy damage balance.

"it's not the game that has the problem, it's you who has the problem"

I hate that shit it's so stuck up and snotty, souls nerds get this same way when Dark Souls gets criticized as being unfair.

you have the weirdest hateboner for dark souls, dude. it's probably the most bizarre thing out of your dumb baby ranting, and that's saying something.

Re: ayrt

and yet you won't even consider that it's true. you are flawless, it's the game that is wrong!

I have a hateboner for the stupid hard game trend that's in vogue right now.

doubly so when it ruins a franchise i otherwise care about.

and yet botw is critically and popularly heralded as a massive success and one of the greatest games ever made. i guess everyone that thinks that is a dumb dark souls loving gitgudder that does horrible things like adapt and, ugh, do non-mandatory game content oh god i'm getting the vapors.

Re: ayrt

lol my eight year old sister is close to beating breath of the wild. dark souls this ain't, kid. you're allowed to not like something, but stop acting like nintendo set out to make something ludicrously hard just because you're too stubborn to play the game the way it's intended.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2017-03-26 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
food is plentiful in safe areas. you can generally fudge what kind of food you eat so long as it's giving some benefit. you don't tear through your food supply unless you're rushing into needless battles. a lot of the stuff you're going on about as if it were game breakingly bad is honestly not that frustrating to deal with, even for people who are more used to the older games.

i still don't think you've played the game. i think you're parroting other criticisms and adding non-existent details to make it sound like you had.

Re: ayrt

i hate to tell you this, but you aren't the guy that plays dark souls with a nonoptimal character. you're the guy that refuses to use your estus flask because you got herbs in demon's souls.

But it's exactly the same "have x amount of stats to not die immediately" scaling.

Someone already flipped out on my timeline and I can only tilt my head because the first thing she says is that she has no nostalgia for and even hated it by proxy because her sibling was into it. All I could think of "Why did you see it then? And what were you expecting from it?"

All I'm expecting is dumb fun and from what I've seen from most other people is exactly that, so I think I'm going to have a fun Sunday morning tomorrow.
