Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Well, I doubt the previous Zelda games assumed you wouldn't collect heart pieces either. and YET the enemies didn't do so much damage that it was mandatory to do.

There are no workaround when every enemy can do this without fail. you can't avoid fights 100 percent of the time. The quest makes it sound like you have to fight the Lynel.

sure and that's something i can live with because i honestly don't think this is really THAT big a deal

i mean, i dunno what to tell you, i am in the game with a younger character, i am someone directly affected by this, and the best reason people can come up with to tell me why i should be bothered is a potential slippery slope argument

so far i've enjoyed the game enough precisely BECAUSE of its structure that i'd rather give the mods the benefit of the doubt here and see how it plays out before i get all up in arms and i know plenty of people who feel similarly, that's all

You're sound just like a "git gud" souls neckbeard.

Previous Zelda games had things you could get to make the game easier, but enemies didn't one shot you if you didn't want to look for heart pieces.

Because scaling things to be hyper-lethal is bad game design.

lol i at least tell someone no if they approach by asking tho

but otherwise this

you're missing that lynels and the like are entirely optional. you can fight every boss in this game without getting any "extra" hearts if you want to play that way, but don't cry about not being able to beat ENTIRELY OPTIONAL enemies without doing extra shit or "getting gud".

the way the mods handled this is the actual problem. if they'd listened to their player's concerns and genuinely compromised, even if that still involved them setting some form of cap, it would've been fine. being childish and throwing out a passive-aggressive ultimatum phrased as a poll was super off-putting and made it clear these mods can't be trusted to handle disagreements with their players in a mature way.

ooh lol is that Cassian they're lauding as so so so so fucking perfect the same one that was at eluvio? the virtue signalling spanish speaking Cassian? the inexplicable super hacker Cassian? the poly expert Cassian?

just another reason why they're mocking the eluvio mods, since they actually called out that Cassian for oocness.

good lord are you still sperging out over this? you're sounding like a broken record, kid, take the game back to gamestop and start replaying wind waker or some other zelda game pure enough for your sensibilities. it's pretty clear you aren't going to take anyone's advice to overcome your mental handicaps.

it's not mandatory to collect heart containers. you've been told this repeatedly by now.

botw is not the previous zelda games. they've explicitly said they're breaking from established series traditions. one of these is giving the players ways to temporarily increase their maximum health to allow them to deal with enemies they're otherwise unprepared for, or to boost their defense and damage, or to let them explore a bit until they find a stronger weapon that lets them take out enemies before they can strike back. or to sneak up to them one at a time and oneshot them with sneak strikes.

use the options the game gives you.

ive wanted this for like a decade but the used price is steep and i cant emulate it for some reason [graphics look off]

Re: ayrt

the quest explicitly tells you that you only need to collect 20 shock arrows, if you want to you can even just buy them. several npcs in the leadup to the quest and in the area where you get it tell you that the lynel is dangerous and you shouldn't approach it. you see shock arrows littered around the plateau the lynel is on as soon as you get there, before it can spot you, because there's always a few in the first tree you see if you follow the path up.

there are absolutely workarounds because that isn't something "every enemy can do without fail." down some defense food/potions, suddenly enemies hit you for significantly less damage. use hearty food/potions, suddenly you have enough hearts to tank a few hits. use attack food/potions, suddenly you can take things out much faster. use stealth food/potions or the sneaking suit, suddenly you can just walk up behind enemies and oneshot them with stealth strikes (you can even do that without the food/potions and suit, it just requires crouching and moving slowly). use bombs/arrows/environmental hazards to pick off enemies from a distance or one at a time.

instead of complaining about problems that are entirely on you not using options the gave gives you, use the options the game gives you.

idk about ayrt but the LARP group i dabbled in was enormous compared to a tabletop group. google "mind's eye society" -- these people are all over the world.

Re: ayrt

the game doesn't "scale things to be hyper-lethal." it's balanced around using the options you're given.

you have options to boost your defense, attack, health, stealth, and movement speed temporarily, and you find the ingredients needed for those in every town/village, every forest, every beach, every river and lake, even just scattered around the area. you have equipment that boosts your stealth or defense or gives you perks against specific hazards. you have arrows and bombs to pick things off at range. you can use magnesis and a metal weapon to bludgeon things from a distance. you can sneak up on enemies to take them out with stealth strikes. you can use noise to lure them near cliffs or rivers and then hit them to knock them off so you have less enemies to deal with. if you're willing to learn the timing, you can backflip/sidestep away from any attack and get a free flurry rush opportunity for major damage, or you can shield parry anything to use no durability for your shield and stun the enemy temporarily (or even reflect their attack back at them for major damage), but if you can't do that, there's nothing stopping you from just using items with bonus effects to make enemies more bearable instead.

nothing necessary in the game requires you to upgrade your hearts if you don't want to, but if not doing so is causing you problems, you can either get the hang of backflipping/sidestepping/shield parrying, or you can use items to mitigate whatever's causing you problems. or you can just avoid direct combat altogether by relying on sneak attacks, attacking from a distance, or just running away until you have the means to deal with them. in the case of the lynel in the zora region, you never have to fight it, and npcs warn you not to, so just get the shock arrows by gathering the ones on the ground/in the trees/stuck in rocks, fighting the weaker lizalfos on the way to zora's domain, or just buying them from a town/vendor.

the game gives you all the options you need to deal with the problems you're facing, even though those problems are the result of a self-imposed restriction (refusing to use spirit orbs to get more permanent orbs and not exploring much). use them.

here, let me give you their response:

"but i didn't have to do that in wind waker you fat smelly gitgudder."

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2017-03-23 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
really? because by my count, there are only 5 or 6 characters left who might be under 18, and of those only pidge isn't at least 17. honestly, when the drop train started on tuesday, most of the characters i was seeing on it were all underage.

did that to show you that it doesn't work while anon. because of a loophole in formatting and people abusing it and fucking up comms for pages, they've closed a lot of what you can do while anon.

Huh. It works on FFA but that may be do to custom comm formatting or something, IDK. My bad.

oh, i minded the cap. most of the younger eluvio players on my friends list had something to say about it too. i was willing to shrug and let it go since im capable of making my own fun, but i decided to drop after seeing how the mods handled themselves in a shitstorm.
