Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

this is true for me but i don't brag about it because i grew up poor and they were one of the only things my mom could stretch a dollar for at the supermarket to make me and my little sister smile. i associate archie comics with a weird painful time in my life and i feel better off pretending to be brand new to the bandwagon

Is it easy or difficult to get a job where you live, anons? What sorts of jobs are available and are you satisfied with the options? How many of you have had to move to another town or county (or state/region/province) to get a job?

This quest is probably fairly impossible, but I'm looking for a plus-size teen girl with reddish-brown hair, with a femme fatale vibe.

I hope this is the right thread for this, but I'm having a problem that's bothering me and I'm not sure how to fix it.

I'm going to be apping into a new game this month with a friend playing a character where 90% of my knowledge for her is from the wiki and watching my friend play the 3rd game in the series she's from. I haven't yet personally played the game series she's from, but I'll be able to at least play the first game in her series in March--but that'll be after I've already apped into this game and been in it for a few weeks. I don't plan on watching anything from the first game due to wanting to remain a little unspoiled for myself.

Given these conditions, what would be the suggested best way to play her until I'm able to get first-hand experience on the other games she's in? The version of her I'm apping is the one from the 3rd game, but knowing at least the first one is kind of crucial to her backstory.

I think it depends. My line of work is a specialized professional field, and there are always more applicants than positions available, to say nothing of the number of unpaid internship postings.

I moved for my current job, which will end this year as it is grant funded, and I have no doubt that I will move again. It isn't weird or unusual to have a few grant funded positions before finding something permanent.

why don't we just have a tfln comm? there'd be instant gratification, no captcha. everyone would just post a text whenever they wanted to.

the only downside is that everyone couldn't pick off the front page or there'd be too many repeats. it'd basically be a rip-off of sws, sure, but there'd be better modding and lets no kid ourselves by saying another sws is beneath us these days when tfln and texting memes remain the most popular on bakerstreet.

there could even be tags so those just looking for castmates won't have to wade thru 14 pages to find them.

Re: sa

(Anonymous) 2017-02-11 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
tags is a bad idea, unless you're tagging usernames. which is stupid, because not everyone would know a username for x character unless they were buddy-buddy or already known. you'd still have to look through 14 pages to find someone if they just had a cast name or username up in there.

You should wait.

March isn't far off and since it's absolutely crucial to her backstory to have first game knowledge, then you need to have that knowledge before attempting to play her.

Re: CHARACTER ADVICE

(Anonymous) 2017-02-11 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
I do have the basic knowledge though. Because I've read her wiki article at least three times and her wiki article is extremely detailed and even gives a play-by-play of events that happened to her in the first game + the backstory.

But for me there's a big difference between knowing something because I read it and knowing something because I saw it happen in-context with my own eyes. So I guess what I mean is that on a technical level I know her backstory and I could explain it if needed, but I don't know ALL the ins and outs of it and won't until I play the first game in March.

Hey anons!

How do you handle story dlc after apping into a game? This is the first time I'll be playing from a canon that has continuous updates and the updates reference events that already happened in the story. So it's technically in the history of the character, just not expanded on yet.

Would you treat this like a canon update? Or just kinda add it into your playing if it's nothing world-shattering?

Re: CHARACTER ADVICE

(Anonymous) 2017-02-11 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, misread the initial post! Thought you were trying to avoid spoilers so you didn't know anything about the first game.

In that case, it's probably fine if you already know the basics and what you need to play her. If you're able to fill out an app confidently, then you're good to go.

I would suggest looking up information as you go. Like if something comes up in rp that you should know, don't play it off until you get through the game. Just look it up then and there.

Re: CHARACTER ADVICE

(Anonymous) 2017-02-11 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
No problem! By some definitions I'd be completely spoiled on the first game, but by my definition I'm not fully spoiled until I see how scenes actually play out. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough!

Yeah, I'm concerned for situations where like, a character who would know her from the first game but wasn't in the 3rd game either apped into this game eventually or just wanted to play with her in general. I wouldn't know how she'd exactly feel or interact with that person because I wouldn't have the first-hand knowledge of how their relationship looked in canon, if that makes sense.

Your advice is good though. Thank you!

(Anonymous) 2017-02-11 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
idk, i would probably ask the mods.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-11 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
plots that aren't just shock value or information gathering. I would kill for something that gave people more leeway to be creative like the dream event or even to cooperate and work with different people like the repairs event. those still mixed in the elements of horror but both had an approach to it that was new and different and that made them a lot more exciting.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-11 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
This isn't even convincing shitstirring

Be more subtle, go for vaguely dissatisfied but unwilling to elaborate, it's more believable in this context

(Anonymous) 2017-02-11 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Instances of this remind me of the short novel The Outsider by Albert Camus.

Spoilers: A man is found guilty of murder not on the basis of evidence, but because several days before the murder he was at his mother's funeral and didn't cry, which for the jury proved that he was a cold blooded monster.
