i had to drop a while back because i just could not keep up anymore due to rl things, but i hope when the game eventually does end (not giving any judgment on whether it will happen soon or not) former players are allowed to join the comms again so we can read our old stuff in context and read how the plot unfolded. i have a lot of fond memories and affection for this game still.

honestly i've always wondered why mods of locked games don't allow old players to stay joined under a personal journal or something so they can keep access to their threads. like, what's the logic in keeping them locked out? they already know what goes on in the game, they were in it.

removing character journals I can kinda see, to prevent people from continuing to play in the game after dropping or being swept by ac, but other games don't force players to drop on-going threads when they drop. so it just makes it harder to wrap stuff up.

really all it does is foster a culture where people will hold out longer than they should in a game because they don't want to lose their threads.

because it's a locked game. that means locked to current players. locked games work differently than open games, and that includes not being able to wrap shit up when you drop (and frankly, i rarely see anyone wrap up threads after they drop in open games.)

if you let older players stay in the game, that defeats the purpose of keeping it locked, and it adds to the shit stirring quality of why a game is locked in the first place. someone who's a shit stirrer drops, but they can stay in with a personal journal and oh look, shit stirring is still going on.

tbh, if you're going to drop and your past threads are that important to you, take the time in a day to figure out how to save them before you drop. i've never had an urge to re-read old threads, and not everyone does, so there's no reason for a game to cater to someone's nostalgic desire.

they did this in CoA, I REALLY hope they do it in Tana

No, they did not. They swept people from COA regularly. They MIGHT have allowed certain people to join again to capture threads from older runs, but that would have been for a very short period of time before they were locked out again.

This is just part of joining a locked game, and if having access to your old threads is that much of a thing for you, then find a way to keep them before you leave it or don't bother joining. The game being locked is for the benefit of the people IN the game. Your post-game wants don't supersede that.

You're right in saying they didn't allow dropped players to stay during the game's run, but once it died and was turned into a sandbox, then they let old players rejoin for access to threads.

Yes, this exactly. Once Tanagura ends I see no harm in allowing previous players to rejoin the same way.

Okay. That'd be where the confusion was for me. On that end, if Tanagura does wind up closing, I don't see any problem with letting old players in to access their threads. It's during a game's run that I feel it should stay locked to existing players.
