i don't know about THE biggest, but i've had several versions of the same coveted canonmate pop up over time only for each and every one of them to turn out to be duller than growing grass. sucks.

found the other half of my otp, played by one of the best writers i've ever encountered in rp. had one short yet magnificent thread together, then they dropped off the face of the earth for all eternity.

two PSLs with a similar character dynamic. in each, we got a few hundred comments in, but after asking after them to continue the PSL and having them drop the thread again a couple times, i gave up. i figure i was way more invested than either of them were. :( feels bad man.

Someone apped to my game with a rare character who is extremely close to mine in canon and ended up being absolutely wonderful only to idle out after the first month without a word. I imagine they couldn't help it and real life got in the way, but it was still a big disappointment. No one else plays that character.

to you and the above anon. the worst was when a castmate with a close relationship to mine apped in, dropped after a few months due to rl issues and "losing the muse", then apped the same character to a bigger, faster game literally a week later. i stopped playing one of my favorite characters because i got so sick of being flaked on/enabled and dropped on.

inbe4 "maybe it was you". could be so, but my requests for crit fell on deaf ears or were met with reassurances that i was awesome at playing [x].

a psl i planned out with a great writer with a fantastic dynamic that hits all of my kinks. got about twenty tags in and then dropped off the earth. i'd followed up with them later, but they weren't interested in continuing due to rl stuff, which is understandable

but sometimes i still think about where that thread could have gone. it could've been SO GOOD

Had a really amazing, long running thread with someone playing the other half of one of my favorite pairings, planned out a PSL and then had a ton of stuff come up RL and fell out of contact. I've thought about messaging them every so often, but I feel guilty about the long radio silence. Still really miss playing and talking to them, though.

Had one not long ago where it was a cute shippy thread, hit a lot of my buttons, but the other player messaged and asked if we could take the thread in an NSFW direction, I told them I wasn't comfortable doing that with that particular character... and never heard a word from them again, to the point they even ignored a later response to a top level.

started a smutty gangbang thread and the names that my partner picked for the OCs were chad, gunther, ronny, and howie and i was too embarrassed to tell my partner how aggressively unsexy those names were so i just ghosted them

i'm sorry, anon, but i think this is hilarious. i played a smutty gangbang thread out once and deliberately chose names that were either a) super unsexy, b) taken from a discount store, or c) actually really cool for all the various people participating.

these names include pete, larry, tj, ross, marshall, and donny. and ragnar. ragnar falls into category c

my partner and i still joke about it. they're "the discount gang"

I found the perfect castmate I wanted, they were great at writing the character, they apped in and were accepted. And then the game imploded and closed before they could intro. I didn't get a single in-game thread with them.

1. after patiently waiting for months because someone i'd planned a psl with had irl stuff, it was dropped when they came back after they lied to me about wanting to still play it. we were just about to start posting when i got radio silence.

it's one thing when this happens with some idea for a psl you and someone on plurk chatted about, another entirely when there's a several month long gap and a very rare otp involved.

2. i had close cr with a character whose ship partner was a massive flake. because of said flakiness, i didn't attempt to thread with them much unless it was super important (the flakiness would drop when that person was playing smut or something where their character was the center of attention) or smalltalk i was fine with being dropped after 2 tags.

the disappointment comes in as i watch my friend slowly get more and more irritated with their ship partner's flakiness until they get into a fight about it, and soured almost everyone in our small group on playing their current characters. i wasn't exactly one of these people but i was left with a single partner after all this was done. there was still so much i wanted to play out...

Got a real fun RP partner for smut times, found them on TLH, of all places. We hit it off pretty well and had quite a few fun threads, eventually went to AIM RP as well for something more immediate rather than threading.

Suddenly, he stopped logging on and never tagged me back (like literally the next day, he never logged in and hadn't logged in since). Sent a couple PMs to no avail, so I gave up. He popped up a few weeks later, so I tagged him, he didn't respond. A year later, he tagged ME and I asked what was up, he apologized, but never quite gave me an actual explanation. Just that it was shitty of him to do. We started a thread, two tags in, he pulled the disappearing act again.

Not sure what I did to this day, which is a pretty shit feeling.

Although it's kind of hilarious that he tags my other character now and I'm pretty sure he doesn't know it's me and I'm not going to tell him at this point since I've sort of stopped writing smut but left plenty of his threads hanging in the process because of my waning interest. Karma, I guess? Idek lol

My two usual RP partners are both flaking hard, and it's the biggest disappointment I've had in years.

One wanted to set up a PSL but refuses to shit or get off the pot. We've got a scenario set up but she has a meltdown over one thing or another whenever we try to start. The other PSL partner wanted to do something where I took charge of the setting and we started that, but after a couple of weeks she has begun to drop every thread we begin. It's infuriating because I've got all these events planned, but... dude... I can't get to them if you keep dropping threads before I can make anything happen.

Since I'm gameless right now, I'm down to one single thread with someone who is neither of them. On the upside, it's a fun thread.

I'm still friends with people I left on the backburner, but we've moved on to play in different fandoms and now I can only lament what could have been. it's not the sort of thing a good friend would do.
