there are no big bads in su. everyone is thrown in the cuddle pile and healed by steven's pure, loving heart. this is why i've stopped having any hope for the supporting cast in the long term. seeing how they shat up lapis+peridot and hearing their plans for jaser just makes me gag.

this can maybe apply to peridot but even steven had to work with her, and lbr she was the easiest to work with because she wasn't personally attached to the whole PD situation the way jasper and the other diamonds are.

idk if steven and probably greg teaching homeworld gems to heal and move on really counts as everyone magically being healed by steven's love. there's gotta be a middle ground to all this because i really doubt any of the diamonds are going to be shattered but it would be really dumb if steven gave YD a leaf or took BD out in the rain and they suddenly Got It.

hell i wouldn't complain if bismuth remains bubbled simply because she will never be able to agree on a peaceful way of dealing with this situation. same goes for jasper. i think it's an important message to send to kids that there are going to be some people who will never get along, and that's just something they have to learn to expect in life.

i wish it'd go this route but I see Jasper at least getting dragged out for some sad woobie plot :/

i thought the plot with the Kevin worked because it emphasized some people are just plain douches. that sort of message works perfectly well with the villains - sometimes you can't redeem or get along with someone and sometimes someone's just plain dangerous to be around

so you see, jasper's arc is going to be about learning to love herself, because the reason she rejected steven's help wasn't because he represents everything she detests or anything... it's because she doesn't love herself. somehow. and grwg is going to play a big part of her healing journey according to some va's, which oh boy get ready for the shipping. it sounds like she's going to turn into yet another sad woobie and it sucks because she has the makings of a great morally gray character.

after the zoo arc i can honestly understand why jasper might feel that way about herself and it is kinda annoying, ngl. earth gems are basically treated like shit and are probably always reminded of how they failed to protect their diamond and how it was one of them who killed her. jasper's obv treated better than those amethysts so it might be self-induced guilt.

jasper becoming a woobie pisses me off. not because i think she's abusive or because i give a shit about apologism, but because she's more fun to me as an antagonist and "uwu they were self-loathing, don't you feel bad now" is the laziest trope in the book.
