RECOMMEND ME NON-AMERICAN SNACKS TO BUY AND STUFF INTO MY FACE

(Anonymous) 2017-01-05 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
i'm running out of foreign snacks, please give me suggestions for my next shopping trip, anons.

they don't have to be 100% foreign, they can be some specialty doritos for all i care. as long as it tastes good, it's not expensive, and i don't have to depend on the black market to find it.

i'm fine with ordering from foreign websites that ship to the us or going to local ethnic grocery stores. it looks like most of the international grocery stores in my area focus on food from asia (mainly china, japan, and korea), mexico, the middle east, and poland.

food preferences: i have no allergies or food sensitivities. i don't like sour or bitter tastes. i'm okay with spicy food but nothing TOO spicy, medium american salsa is hot enough for me to need frequent drinks, lmao. drink suggestions are fine but i'd prefer food, no alcohol/coffee though (i don't hate tea but i've only had it a few times). i'm open to snacks from any country but i definitely have a preference for asian and hispanic/latino foods.

i'm also open to using sites other than amazon, if anons have any good international food site suggestions.

philippines: philippine brand dried mangoes, boy bawang cornicks (i like adobo and chili cheese), chippy bbq corn chips, regent snack golden sweet corn (things i did not like: hany milk chocolates ARE WAY TOO PEANUT BUTTERY FOR ME, nagaraya hot and spicy cracker nuts)

Israeli anon here! I recommend:

Pesek Zman (especially Big Bite and 4play, forgive the godatrocious name), Krembo (esp mocha-flavored!), Mekupelet, Kariot (it's a cereal brand -- they're all pretty good), Halva, Kinder chocolate (Bueno milk/white, eggs, fingers) and Klik (especially the Kariot and Pecan ones, though again, they're all pretty good). I also really dig the Wissotzky vanilla-cinnamon red tea!

i'd straight up kill a man 4 calbee snow pea crisps

tho i dont personally like them, as an aussie i'm obligated to rec arnott's shapes. tim tams are also amazing and have heaps of assorted flavors to try. looks like you can get them both on amazon!

rubs russian food-loving hands together eagerly, let me give you some recommendations

sushki - they're like little crunchy bread rings you often snack on with coffee, they come in different flavors, but mostly they're just plain
halva - is actually more of a general middle eastern/asian dish, and it's sort of like fudge, but softer - it's often made from sesame paste and can have chocolate mixed into it
pryaniki - a really soft gingerbread/honey spice cookie, often frosted
kissel - kind of hard to describe but it's kind of like a thick fruit-flavored soup/drink, often eaten warm
poppy seed roll - kind of a pastry filled with poppy seed filling
bird's milk (ptasie mleczko) - often put into candy bars, but a kind of light and soft meringue that isn't terribly sweet

hope that helps! i know polish cuisine sometimes overlaps with russian cuisine, so there's a chance you'll find these things in the poland sections of your store

you can find all-dressed in Maine stores and some stores sell ketchup too, but yeah, pretty firmly a Canada thing.

i don't remember the brand name, but there are these little hollow cookies with panda bears stamped on them filled with chocolate cream, you can find them in the same aisle at Target as the pocky. they are so good.

if you like calbee jagabee you might actually really like vegemite? best eaten on toast with more butter than vegemite.

more australian stuff:
arnotts lemon crisps (cookie. two salty-sweet crackers with lemon icing between)
iced vovo (cookie. iced with a streak of jam and covered in coconut)
tim tams (cookie. chocolate covered chocolate cookies sandwiching chocolate cream but they also come in a variety of flavors)
golden gaytime (ice cream. honeycomb and vanilla on a stick dipped in chocolate and granola-ish cookie crumbs)
wizz-fizz (candy. packets of sweet white powder that froths in your mouth.)
fizzers (candy. brightly colored taffy strips that fizz in your mouth.)
musk sticks or musk lollies (candy. pink "musk" flavor, flowery, pretty unique.)
ovalteenies (candy. chocolate drink powder ovaltine compacted into chalky pellets.)

Oh boy here comes a whole list of german snacks:

Funny-frisch/chipsfrisch chips: lots of flavors to choose from. Paprika is a classic, currywurst style tastes like...currywurst. I really love rot-weiss schranke (ketchup and mayo flavor) but idk if it's available anymore.
Curly/erdnuss locken/erdnuss-flippies: like cheetos but made with ground peanuts
Mohn schnecken: like cinnamon buns but with a poppyseed filling Waldmeister-geister: gummies with woodruff flavor
Nimm2 gummies: I like the kind with yoghurt, but there are a lot of different kinds around.
Katjes gummies and licorice: if you've had percy pigs and liked them, the katjes variant is called fred ferkel.
Haribo saft goldbaeren: like regular haribo bears, but made with fruit juice and in different flavors than the normal assortment. The blackcurrant flavor is great!
Leibniz cookies
Kinder joy: two crunchy wafer balls in a chocolate and milk icing that you eat with a tiny spoon, with a separate compartment containing a small toy.
KINDER HAPPY HIPPO I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS ONE ENOUGH
Milka chocolate: my personal favorite is kuhflecken, which is milk chocolate with white chocolate splotches. They also have bars with salty crackers on them if you're a fan of savoury-sweet snacks.

Katjes jes jes jes!

Jingles that will be in my head forever goddammit.

Ritter Sport everything as well. Although I'm partial to the vanilla mousse filled ones.
