All the pretty little anons

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

I finished a thread with someone, as in it got to the point where there wasn't much else to do and things just naturally petered out. About a month later, I get a PM asking if I was planning to tag back to that thread. Not asking if I wanted to do a new one, just asking why I hadn't replied yet.

I explained that I had assumed the thread had reached its ending and asked if they had some other plan for it and got a simple "OK!" in response... but now I'm worried other people have felt burned when they thought I "dropped" a thread with them that I had just assumed was complete.

Usually you'd, y'know, pm them and ask if they're okay with stopping there.

i've never done this. i just don't reply if it feels like i'd be forcing the thread to keep going. whoops.

maybe you would, but I only do if I'm wanting to drop something that doesn't feel finished.

you don't even need to pm. just give a little ooc note or something in the title asking if they'd like to wrap the thread up.

Usually dropping a note in ooc brackets or in the subject line is enough to give the heads-up that you think things are done. If they want one or two more tags to get things wrapped up on their side, then at least they know what's going on.

i know someone who almost always ends a thread before it actually feels done. real awkward when you ask to continue because then it's like you're just pulling tags out of them after.

Don't beat yourself up for it. Unless you only ever have one thread with someone and never another one, your way of ending things can't be all bad.

Make sure you're not dropping threads if the other character has asked a question from yours. Answer that and perhaps include an OOC note to say you think that's a good place to end (but that you won't mind continuing a few more tags if needed).

Honestly, the anoncomms talk like it's standard, but across all my games I've never played with anybody who wraps up all their threads tidily IC and checks with the other player before they stop tagging something. I don't get it.

same here, anon. honestly the only time I've checked with someone on plurk or pm whether they want to stop is if the thread is just going on beyond a comfortable length and I'm thinking "enough already!" the rest of the time I just stop at a natural scene end and that seems to be pretty normal.
