Rundown:

rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

a big thing is that back when this was all on LJ, most social media platforms were still in their infancy (except myspace, but no one used myspace) and the major fandom communities were pretty much all on LJ.

long story short; LJ made a lot of decisions that made it difficult to maintain fandom OR RP communities on there, so RP all immigrated over to DWRP, but since that was 2012 and by this time tumblr, facebook, etc were all now very much A Thing, the fandom communities didn't come with is.

so we basically got caught off from the fuel system that kept players coming in. now, we are by no means a tiny playerbase, a recent survey of players suggests we're anywhere in a range from 1,500-4,000 (large margin, yeah, but hey, that's statistics for ya), but that's still pretty small to spread among all the games on DWRP plus players that only play memes/PSLs

as far as how our drama is handled, that's basically the reason these anoncomms exist, ostensibly. that being said, you can go your entire time here and not need to worry a wink about it because they're not nearly as influential on the general player climate as they used to be

I remember following hiimdaisy on livejournal and when I decided to peruse an old post on LJ I noticed it's all very... russian now.

that's a pretty big number and I wasn't expecting giant ones but that's bigger than I was expecting. it's actually pretty impressive when you compare it to the amount of forum members on longer lasting forum roleplay sites.

honestly just off browsing around out of curiosity all I've ended up seeing is stuff you might see on a more personal imageboard (Greater Anon Dickwad Theory or whatever) and the person who recommended dreamwidth to me told me to avoid a community named wankgate (that same person turned out to actually be pretty hated in this rp community and while it hasn't ruined our friendship entirely it's made me lose all the trust I had in them) so I should be good I guess?

I MEAN i'll be legit with you, i do browse and sometimes even post to wankgate, but never anything i wouldn't also say logged in, or anything tremendously hateful. usually just petty venting, or providing facts on a matter, or participating in those occasional "what would you do if you were the mod" kind of threads. that kind of stuff.

and rpanons, while not having the same reputation of drama as wankgate, is a lot more loosely moderated and tends to be beset by shitposting on the occasion. honestly both comms are kind of shined turds, but the advice to just avoid wg is not unfounded, especially since all of the utility threads (username suggestions, character advice, pb suggestions, etc) are here.

I think the worst kind of people to deal with on places like 4chan are the ones who act self-righteous and go "oh I don't browse/post to 4chan and anyone who does are terrible people" while they're checking out rekt threads or shitposting on /b/ so I completely support sticking to your guns both on and off anon

but this wankgate place doesn't seem to hold a candle to 4chan (/pol/ alone is of worse quality) and even if I ignore everything else it's at least opened my eyes to the kind of person I might not want to get much closer to (having known them as long as I have it's hard to believe they'd do a lot of this stuff and when someone tries to say "i only did it because of (x) & (y) reason" you're more inclined to believe them if it sounds in line with what they've done in the past)
