once i met a roleplayer who said that the ending of our canon was shit and she judged the mangaka because it didn't revolve around the 2 guys in her ship (and the anime producers for not changing the canon ending LOL)... when it was a story about the titular main character. in a shonen series. the ship being end-game was supposedly "optional" (yeah right) but she was upset that the titular character got "too much attention" despite him supposedly being a character she cared about.

how the fuck can you watch a series that names the mc in the title and then get pissed that the story's mainly about the mc?! tbh it wouldn't surprise me if she was lying about liking the mc just so she didn't come off as one of those "the mc is so bland, the only characters that matter are the ones in my otp!" types.

I'm not in the fandom but remember back in the day when Gurren Lagann was new and people were incredibly butthurt about the ending?

"No, this didn't happen, what really happened is Simon and Nia got together and had babies together and also Kamina came back to life and got together with Yoko and they too had like a million babies together. This is my version and I stick to it."

Not that the ending is flawless but this shit is just pathetic and stands against the message of the show.

The typical shipping drama! I remember like, book three of the series coming out and the non-canon pairing fans SWEARING that the author would, idk, change their mind and make our perfect OTP the end pairing? There was a ton of ~essays~ and digging way too far into old ass interviews to defend their SUPER REAL SUPER SERIOUS THEORIES. I didn't buy it at all, and sure enough, when the fourth book came out and nothing had changed, everyone who had been riding on this pairing was super buttmad about it. Spamming the other pairing's LJ comms with spoilers, bashing every character but their pet favorite, writing even MORE essays...

But schadenfreude still happened, because holy shit was no one happy with that final installment, not even the canon pairing shippers.

I remember when the Fullmetal Alchemist manga ended, there were a number of people legitimately angry about the fact that at least part of the final chapter was not devoted to Roy and Riza's perfect wedding.

thanks to Naruto and Bleach most of fandom is trying to "call" endgame ships in a manga that still has 10 years to go.

it can't be any more disappointing than the happy-endings-for-everyone! direction the show has inexplicably decided to go

i fully expect mel to travel to the riverlands in s7 and rezz robb, cat and even ned so the starks can all have a big group hug once big momma dany's in charge and All Is Right With the World (rickon will get passed over b/c who dat)

if you don't recognize this as d&d softening us up to destroy us later, as ramsay once said, "you haven't been paying attention."

remember all the other times when things have seemed happy, and what happened after that. they've been doing this to us from the first episode! "aw, look at ned and his nice family. they look so happy together!" then bran gets pushed out a window and almost dies.

let's see, what else? oh yeah. "aw look, robb going to be a dad and talisa wants to name it eddard if it's a boy. and look how happy edmure is with his new wife. everyone's laughing and having a great time!" and then suddenly RED WEDDING.

"look! sansa's free from joffrey, his mother and all of king's landing! she's going home!" ...and then she's basically sold to the boltons and gets raped by ramsay.

d&d does this to us all the time. softens us up with moments that make us think that maybe things are going to be alright, and then they drop a bomb on us.
