All the pretty little anons

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

I think the anon was more referring to his game and not the character. Apollo is reasonably well liked as a character, but a good chunk of the fandom hates AA4.

you know what's weird to me

back when aj first came out a few people jumped on me for criticizing it, so i got the impression it was well-liked in the fandom. people went on about how great it was and i rarely saw dislike in the circles i traveled in. i didn't even dislike it myself--i just found it more than a little lacking in some areas.

it's so bizarre to know my impression was completely wrong. i thought aai was the most hated game in the series. and is dd really less hated than aj?

I think AJ really got shat upon later because of the plot that DD just pretended it didn't exist in most cases so it makes AJ really feel like it doesn't belong. JFA at least brought us some neat things to add to the series. AJ only brought Apollo and Klavier and screwed up Ema's characterization. Most people find Klavier to be a bland prosecutor and Apollo only got liked when DD and SoJ finally gave him some backstory beyond his mentor is an asshole and stuff he's not aware of still.

When Apollo Justice (The game) was still relatively new, a lot of people fervently defended it mostly out of a kneejerk reaction to "nerds only complaining because it's new and different." You can argue there was a lot of that too, but as time went on and the hype wore off people felt more comfortable (dis)liking it on its own merits.

I noticed the dislike seemed to become more prominent when DD came out. Before that it seemed people were willing to accept AJ as the start of an arc and see where it went from there and then DD just added more new characters, only resolved Phoenix's badge loss and nothing else. Trucy was reduced to a gag and Apollo was barely there but at least got a bit more fleshed out, but in ways that ignored most of AJ. I think that really opened the can of worms because it showed the creators didn't care anymore about the game and it did have plenty of faults that were made worse with loose and unresolved plot threads.

I think it's gotten more appreciation as the years have gone on.

DD is the one I hear most of the hatred for these days.
