All the pretty little anons

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

...after psling with a friend where we both play several characters, i no longer have interest in psls between two characters. it's just too LIMITING. anyone else have a problem like this?

Why is it a problem if you're already getting what you want? And who's to say you won't change your mind in a year or two.

My PSL partners and I often include other characters in our threads but we don't have separate journals for them (which is what I believe you mean).

it's a problem because i try anyway, possibly due to my friend not sharing all the same kinks as me. but yeah, there's always a chance i'll change my mind, since i've changed it before. i guess it's not a HUGE problem, but an annoyance.

and no i just mean any sort of PSL that involves more than just one-on-one. doesn't matter if there are separate journals involved.

ayrt

Oh, okay. I can understand that it would be a pity to find an otherwise great PSL partner but who would never care to include other characters into their writing. It is sometimes easier to move a thread forward when there are more than just two characters.

I definitely have the same issue. It keeps things much more interesting and the thread from dying down when we can continue to introduce more conflict. Doing one off PSLs without much of a plan doesn't appeal to me very much anymore.

I don't psl, so how does that work? do you ever have to play your own characters against themselves to maintain continuity?

(Anonymous) 2016-10-06 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
absolutely. i'll play a whole thread between my own characters if the plot demanded it.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-06 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
unlike anon above, not really. i end up handwaving stuff that happens between characters i'm playing, or combine their events into one tag if they're together. sometimes i'll write two separate tags and just reply to my own, but i try not to because a lot can be condensed into one (bit longer) tag.

i don't really have that problem, i still enjoy one-on-one threads because that seems to the most common way of psling. i didn't even think other people did this, threading with multiple characters per player. i guess i assumed most people would call it playercesting and be judgey about it. it's definitely more fun for me, though. i have one friend who plays multiple characters with me all the time.
