All the pretty little anons

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

so since the current last page on this post has no less than five separate threads griping about player tagging speed on dwrp... what about a dwrp game that's set up more like a tabletop game? in that people agree to set time out of their schedule once a week (as they would a d&d game) and dedicate that time specifically to boomeranging and knocking out threads quickly?

i mean of course it's going to boil down to making that work without making it feel forced, like everyone actively wants to set time aside and it's a group of people where that one day tends to work for the majority of them (so probably a small-medium sized game where most people are from one particular time zone, or a group of people with roughly the same schedule) but it's not going to be the end of the world if they miss one week or something due to RL. but they don't miss them regularly. and regular tagging can occur any of the other days of the week.

just that one week a majority of the game is like YEAH THIS IS THE NIGHT I'M EXCITED TO SET TIME ASIDE AND RP AND IT'S SOMETHING I PLAN FOR

i dunno, before the advent of netflicks and internet-based entertainment where you can watch whatever you wanted whenever, it was the thing to set time aside to catch your favorite TV show as it aired, you know? it was just what everyone did. it was normal. it wasn't forced.

a game would have to capture the feeling of something like that.

If you can scrape together a group of admin/DM's/mods who are from different timezones it would help, but this sounds like a fabulous idea. Is it just the day-of-the-week that's similar to tabletop, or is there elements like dungeon-crawling or NPC harassing that you had in mind?

I was in a game once where that was implicitly the case due to some game mechanics, and as much as I loved the game that's what killed it for me because I don't live in EST. And I know that other Europeans have the same issue. Everyone setting time aside only works if everyone is roughly in the same timezone and if their schedules roughly match. Aka such a game would necessarily end up being a lot less international.

The second issue is that you know what the main difference between dwrp and p&p is? The number of players. At least as an adult, getting six people together for a session is hard enough. Most DWRPs have significantly more players than that.

i think the above two anons are missing the point that for something like this to work it has to not be inclusive to everyone and every timezone and every work schedule.

which i'm down for, but that's how it's going to have to work. some people are going to feel let out and accept them's just the breaks.
