The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

considering that half the harry potter characters on bakerstreet aren't actual CHARACTERS in the book, that's the perfect way to play a character and get token points.

wish i could figure out why i've made rp so un-fun for myself. there's all these new games and i want to try one but like every other time i start looking into games, i talk myself out of it. "this character wouldn't fit into the setting, that character would have to be made ooc to work, this character's not social enough, this character's too social and it'd be hard to manage all of that." etc etc.

i miss being able to just app whoever to whatever game and not worry about shit nobody cares about so much.

The strange feeling when I play half of a popular, basically-canon ship (let's call it A/B) with a wonderful partner who does a great job with the other half...

...but I also ship another popular, if now somewhat declining ship (C/D), and reading attempts at threading interactions between C and D is giving me pain in my eyes and brain.

I am invested, but not invested in the way I would if I played C or D. More like "how hard is it to get this right". Maybe it's just that having A/B go so smoothly has spoiled me?

You might have been at it for so long that you've got a better idea of how hard it is to maintain a presence in a game if the character doesn't work out right, or you might come to anon communities often enough that you've developed an idea of what gets wanked on and worry that it might affect you.

Either way, it might be worth it to switch strategies. Pick the top three games and the top three characters you want to play, and figure out which is the best possible match. Then give yourself a deadline... something like two months, maybe, or six. App and do your best to stick with it, get involved, figure out whatever system works best for you to get tags back regularly and quickly, and if you're starting to flag, know that you're only here for x amount of time.

i've definitely been here for a long, long time and i think i'm more aware and worried of wank than what works in games. which is silly because i've been wanked on a grand total of like two times, both for inconsequential grudges, in almost a decade of journal rp and nobody knows me.

making a sort of list sounds like it might help me out more than aimlessly wandering around though. thanks.
