Short term shipping/smut game based on The Lobster

Premise of the movie: in a relationship-focused society, single people are sent to a hotel where they have 45 days to find a partner. If they fail, they'll be turned into an animal of their choice and released into the woods.

The game itself wouldn't be short-term, but it would focus on playing characters short term (for their 45 day cycle). The IC:OOC day ratio wouldn't be 1:1 - I'm thinking maybe 1:4 so each character would have around 6 months. Your character wouldn't have to leave after they got into a confirmed relationship, you could still play them until the end of 45 IC days. You could also choose to have them fail and get turned into an animal.

i could be into this! my only things would be i'd want it to either have a cast cap of one, so you don't just get a castmate apping in and be expected to pair up, or else be au/memloss so no one knows their castmates. i really think this concept and the people playing would suffer for having castmates.

Seconding the cast cap idea. Also, be prepared for butthurt players who can't keep the IC/OOC divide.

Also agreed on the cast cap and seconding memloss, but make it optional. Maybe even just make it so they remember their whole lives, but faces of people important to them are blurry/they can't identify any castmates present?

idk about that. it wouldn't take that long for characters to figure it out if it was just blurry faces, and i don't think there's a level of loss that would make it prohibitive to figure out who your castmates are that isn't so high that it might as well be full memloss.

~magic jamjar unidentifiable castmates~, anon. you can't remember or figure it out because you just can't, no matter how hard you try. it doesn't have to make perfect sense, but it's an option for people who want to play their characters as-is without worrying about getting locked into a relationship with a castmate just because that's who their character knows. call it bond severance or something, idk. the magical jamjar gods wanted that particular person to make an entirely new relationship because reasons.

Thanks for your suggestions! I think a cast cap of one would be a little too restrictive - but I was leaning towards having it be AU or memloss from the start. I don't want to prevent people from playing an arc with their castmates or even with a canon ship (because I've had a few canon ships myself that developed almost entirely offscreen and would love to play something like this), but I also don't want anyone to be expected to play the canon ship.

Would there be a way to strike a good balance between "you can play a ship with a castmate" and "but you don't have to, even if it's canon"? I was leaning towards memloss (or AU where it's assumed that none of the characters know each other) because it'd eliminate pre-existing relationships and the problem of characters being madly in love with someone back home and having to either go OOC or angst about betraying that person the whole time.

Maybe a rule like "If you have a specific ship in mind or your character's canon partner is in game, we encourage you to contact them before you app and see if they're interested in playing it", with the understanding that some players might want to do something different even if they like the canon ship.

memloss is probably easier than AU for most people. dwrp hates writing aus

i really think you could do both! if the people want to au let them, if they want it to be memloss they can do that too!

maybe their universes ended and they got brought here with their castmates and are totally happy living a peaceful life, except they can't find a partner. so to help them along the people in charge give them temp amnesia so they go into the hotel without any preconceived bias for or against anyone.

if it doesn't work to have memloss and au peeps in at the same time you can just run them in different cycles.

personally i prefer au games, but i realize im in the minority. still i would really love if au could at least be an option at some point, even if it isn't in the first cycle.
