I've seen people talk about it here once or twice before (French rp, at least) but 'non-english rp' is a broad concept. I might be best to ask for a specific language right off the bat.

I'm ESL but I don't think I could make my character speak my language instead of English.

my spanish is rusty and i've been meaning to get back into it, and i wouldn't mind japanese practice when i start studying it in a month or so.

i used to post in/lurk some of the old language dressing rooms back in the day but whether i join another would definitely depend on the scope of the community - like, are we talking any non-english languages like the aforementioned DRs or something more specific? if so, which language, etc.

Depends on the language.

I'm ESL and already play with a couple friends in our native language since it's most comfortable for us. I have no interest in being someone's Rosetta Stone or whatever (again, it happened before) in RP though, like I wouldn't want to spend more time correcting someone's tag to me than actually playing with them. That just becomes an unpaid translator job.

I'd have no problem with that. And I wouldn't mind pointing out the occasional blatant mistake to help the person become more fluent, I just wouldn't want to proof every single tag.

I see it happen on tumblr pretty often but I don't think I've ever seen it here. It'd be fun to do but I'm sure there would be a small but vocal minority that would bitch about it on wg for not being to 'clique'. Which basically means anyone that can should go for it and write with other people in whatever language they like.
